Live moss recommendations

Chances are moss will appear on it's own.
Just give it enough light and moisture.
I got different types of moss, most just appeared one day on my organic decoration.
Others i collected from other tanks and just rubbed it in the places i liked the moss to grow.
My personal favorite is the moss that grows from the tree fern panels.

provided there is moss growing in the tank and it sends out spores, then yes, moss will spontaneous appear. but on a man made water feature, odds are against it. the spores are going to grow where there is nutrition (substrate, decaying wood matter, tree fern panels). also, most terrestrial mosses don't fare well for too long under the constant running water

is it bad to take moss from the wild and put it in your viv?

not "bad" per se. i have field collected moss, but i cleaned it thoroughly, then gave it a very mild bleach dip, followed by an even milder peroxide dip. problem with field collected moss is the little nasties that tag along with it. now this only works for aquatic moss. for terrestrial mosses, i would grow them out in a separate container for a couple weeks to see what else grows in there. a tupperware container with a little soil would do the trick nicely. here's how i grow moss. in tupperware, utilizing my fish tank lights. this is aquatic moss i am growing for the mantella tank:

That, and that i mentioned moss growing spontaeneously on organic decoration ;-)

I've built some waterfeatures myself using epoxy raisin i pressed tree fern dust in,
moss appeared after about 3-4 weeks of running.
The moss then spread, taking over even pieces of stone that stayed a little damp.

The java moss shown will do well inside water as well as out.
Once it's settled it takes over the viv.
Not my personal favorite, but i do use it alot inside the tadpole raising tanks since they feed on it.

duh, my apologies, i did miss that one. sometimes i forget to wear my glasses when i grab my phone. i have done the epoxy/tree fern before. it does grow nice. java is controllable, just takes a lot of maintenance. that's why i prefer flame moss, it's a nice, steady, slow grower.
