@Grif: How important is D3 to the frog's diet?

I don't have any supplements containing D3 for my frogs but I do give them reptivite as a single dose in their weekly diet as advised and they do get exposed to the sun every morning because I keep all of my frogs in our terrace.

So I managed to move the heater to where it should be plus I added a couple more real plants as well as a couple fake ones. I think it's shaping up pretty nicely. Hoping to get a nice background at some point. Just haven't decided what I want it to look like yet. So he was sold as an Ornate Horned frog at PetSmart but I've heard that most pet stores sell them as that but they're really Cranwell Horned Frogs. Maybe someone here can give me some sort of clue which one he is?

I'll work on getting a good pic of his back later today. I also have a pretty good pic of the terrarium after I got all the plants in it. But right now I have a pretty important question. So I moved the heater to the side of the tank and the temperature dropped drastically. It was only 70 degrees when I got up this morning. So the heat is just not transferring very well at all now. When I feel the back of it it feels warm but not like hot or anything. I'm not sure how these things work because I've never used one. I put an incandescent bulb in the light to generate some more heat today but I would really like a better alternative to that. Do you think the heater got damaged when I transferred it from under the tank to the side or is it just not working as effectively due to heat loss from the back? Sorry if I'm rambling a bit. I'm just worried that poor little Hypnotoad is going to get too chilly!

They don't get quite as hot as people think they do. A lot of them are designed to prevent burning of your pets. This is the safest way to place it on your tank. You can buy a second UTH and place it on the same side as the other and have 2 of them running to assist with the heat Like Heatheranne does. Sometimes it is best to use an incandescent bulb though if you cannot achieve the correct temp.

The incandescent bulb seems to be helping a bit. The tank is almost up to 80 degrees now. He can't be too cold though because he's not even on the warm side of the tank right now. Thanks so much for the replies. You've been very helpful! I'll be sure to post that pic once he decides to show himself (he's totally buried right now).

    You're welcome.

I'm looking forward to letting you know exactly what species you have.

Johnny Vitamin. D3 I what helps the body metabolize the calcium into their bones. It is important that they get D3 atleast once a week depending upon age. Older Pacs and frogs aren't growing as much so they don't need as much babies can be given it every other feeding or every 3rd feeding. Your frogs must have gotten enough so far by other means. UVB lights help the body produce Vitamin D3 naturally like sunlight does. So its farely important since UVB can be bad if exposed too much to it.
