First thing in the morning I'll be visiting the petco's near me to try and get a couple 29g and 40b tanks! Cross your fingers for me!
Picking up my rack tomorrow too so I can going the rack team lol
Good luck, those 40b go fast.
I know, my hair has been falling out all week waiting for pay day. Haha what can I do?
My Petco here never has the 40b tanks in stock. 10, 20, 29 gallon tanks is pretty much it besides a bow front package.

I'm sitting outside of petco waiting impatiently for them to open lol
Well????? Did you get them? My PetCo usually has the 40b. Welcome to the rack team!![]()
Score! 2 40b's and 3 29s
OMG...five new tanks! You are addicted. How many does that bring you to now?
20 total. I have 4 inhabited, 5 tomorrow after I take a trip to josh's frogs. 8 in the works. And now 7 to be determined. 29s are for d. Tinc. "alanis" , "oyapok" , "to be determined lol" one 40b will be a vert for the sharp back monkey frogs. And the other is TBD
LoL....20 tanks ....you are SO out of control. And Don talks about me. You do realize don't you? You are going to need more than one rack. You're only going to be able to fit about ten tanks per rack. That's why I went with the five foot wide rack in my closet. Im trying to maximize every square inch so I can keep everything on one rack. I look forward to seeing some new threads on some tank builds and frogs. We are going to be starting a new contest in July...be prepared.
To think I got my first frog january 19thmy gf is livid though. Not thrilled I did that. But it was a deal
please don't tell her about the 75gal I'm picking up this evening lol I've lost it.
As for racks.. I planned on getting two. Unfortunatly they will be on hold for another two weeks along with my "in the works tanks" as well.
And builds, there will be builds!but I'm going to be experimenting with the cement/grout method and the clay method. The cement and grout take a long time to cure, so this will be time consuming and may not make it. And my camera was down for alot of builds so I couldnt document them :/ but my horizontal 10g "temp tank" has lots of photos.
I had a drinking problem that evolved into a frog/vivarium problem lol. Fair trade by far. No more, no less money spent. This is just more constructive, and rewarding![]()
Holy cow!
You DO have it bad. Can I ask where do you sleep? With 20 tanks, I can only imagine every single room in your house full of croakin' critters. And they all have to eat. Hmm, that means you have no life at all, outside yer frogs. Like you said, it could be worse ~
Glad you got your tanks, shugar - have fun!

Just be carefull. Some people gather a huge collection quickly and then burn out. Enjoy your frogs and the learning process with each species as you get them. There is also a whole other world of breeding and raising tads. So you have to leave some space for tad and grow out tanks. Just take it slow....you do have to be able to go on vactation at some point. You don't want to be a slave to your frogs. I just got back from a 5 day trip. I was worried sick about them while I was gone, but they all looked fine when I got back. Wheh!!! (Big sigh of relief). Get involved in the frog community, share your knowledge with them, and learn as much as you can from the more experienced. Again, take it slow and enjoy. I look forward to all that you share with us here on Frog Forum. I absolutely LOVE the fact that you are working with both Tree Frogs and Dart Frogs. Keep it up.
Just make sure your floors will handle all the newly added weight. Don't need a lower level catching some frogs for you :-)
Nice buy on the tanks too. If I had that many, I'd be back outside in the igloo which unfortuantely for me has already melted down and the WiFi connection has shorted out.
We're now allowed pets (Except for one 5 gallon tank and a cat) so out of the 5 tanks I have running, three have to leave for home inspections and that just happens to be the heaviest ones. They know I do the planted tanks and the darts would be fine with them but the larger frogs and crickets would be an issue. Luckily they only come twice a year and I take the frogs in for "bring your frogs to work day" when they do come. My boss gets a kick out of it and the crickets put everyone to sleep.

Oh Grrrit, you should update your signature with a list of your frogs.

40 B is a lovely tank but I prefer the taller versions (such as a 65). The problem is the dimensions make getting a good lid hard. Especially if you need to customize it for, say, a dart frog terrarium.

Craigslist is always my down fall for impulse tank buys. Just because they are great deals I'll pick them up not knowing who they are going to be homes for.
As for the drinking problem...Good for you brother! I think my pet addiction has contributed to my girl's drinking problem.
Dont feel bad its an addiction but Im with Cheri on the burnout part enjoy the moment with the animals you have and the animals will enjoy you and as for petgo the tanks are on sale here in NY a dollar a gallon but im good in that deppartment so i work on the weak departments in the hobby so there will be a balance in my life
i just moved me and my gf into a two bedroom house. my mother decided if i had money for pets and my vivariums i could afford a house. she was right lol.. im a UAW worker and do ok finacially., although i have a spending problem with expensive hobbies. bmx, guitars, harleys and other things.
Cheri,
i have plans to do some experimenting with the concrete/grout rockwall backrounds. i havent seen many of them on this forum and thought itd be good to have some detailed info on how to, and successfully establish them on herethe problem is the cure time for them 4-8 weeks. but i want to take my time with them and get it right. 4 of the 10gallon verts im going to buy some exo-terra lights for and attemp to sell and my local reptile show. one lady sells extremely simple vivariums for around $150! i could make some money on these and put it back into the hobby. possibly support the food for everything this way.
Breeding and fly's are kept in consideration and well. my closet in my frog room will be for tads and i have a bunch of plastic grocery display racks for this. so i'll have fly, frog, and tad racks
And as for getting burned out, lol i dont see much of that happening soon. theres always new and exciting things happening in the frog world to keep me tied to it. and having a great place like this to learn and share makes it 10X better.
we have neighbors that ive known for most of my life that would help us out if/when we go on a trip. he's a reefer and is pretty responsible. i can trust him ya know. we do the same for him and his fish when he goes out.
Don,
lol the iglooi would hope my floors handle the weight ahah! my lords of the land said that they have no issue with tanks and my critters as long as theyre contained. but i dont beleive he has any idea of the extent of the work im planning on doing. however we absolutely cannot have cats or dogs
not a huge deal for me but i work midnight to 8:30 im the a.m. and itd be nice to have more than frogs to keep kayleigh company while im gone. and that has to be a bummer moving your frogs like that.
im more worried about the humidity taking effect on the paint and structure of the roombut i only have a 1 year lease and plan on buying a three bedroom house when this one is up and upgrading.
John,
that 40B will be a vert build with some sort of tree feature for Phyllomedusa Vaillanti or bicolor. the sharp back monkey frog is the frog responsible for my obsession with this froggin hobby. im just waiting for Mike to get his to breed again and pick up a trio for it.
Oh Grrrit, you should update your signature with a list of your frogs.
teach me how to do it and i"d love to! i just dont understand the 0:0:0. what means what?
The first 0 is the male, the second 0 is for the females and the last 0 is those that are too young to tell. The species name should be italicized and then you can put the common name after it. The common name is not italicized. So it would look like this:
1.1.2 Dendrobates tinctorius 'Azureus'
One boy, one girl and 2 juvies
