Haha that's ok Don, the first sentence wasn't hard to read but I'm not quite sure what you mean by the second. O: Sorry. ><

That's exactly how I feel about my trip to Norway and England last summer, I was there for such a short time but it's a period in my life I'll never forget.

Are they settling in and eating good for you? Female comming out some ? I wish you well, and hope they're doing good. The male seems to be comfortable, has he picked a favorite spot yet?

Hahaha yay! I'm glad you asked I'm happy to give information, I'm so excited! ><

Unfortunately, I don't have much to report. They haven't moved very much, I think Apollo (the male, I have to start calling them by their names so I don't keep calling them "the male" and "the female" XD has settled in on that leaf since he got here, he's still in the same position but he's closed his eye all the way now so I think he feels more comfortable than yesterday. Mike Novy said I should probably wait to feed them until tonight so I'm not sure if they're going to eat, but I have faith. I know I got them from a good place, I don't expect to have many problems along the way. I'm going to start them off with just a few small crickets and see if they go through four or five, then dump some more in there a bit later. I'll update when I feed them.

Artemis however, has moved only slightly. Last night I checked on her to see if I could take the gauze out and she had moved just enough so I could take it out from under her and throw it out. Step #1 down! XD At least her eyes are closed all the way now, but neither of them have moved from the positions they've been in since I got them.

I DID get to see Apollo shed last night, and Artemis may have as well while I wasn't looking but I'm not 100% sure. So there's a good sign. ^ ^

Thanks for the well wishes! I'll update after I dump some crickets in there and see if they eat them! Thanks for asking though, I wanna tell all I can! ><

Your new frogs will do great since you really do put in the time and attention to make them comfortable.

Update: Well, I've had Apollo and Artemis (the names I've chosen in case I didn't post it here...) for about six days now and I have to say I'm starting to get just a bit concerned. I don't know if this is normal and I have been thinking about giving Mike Novy a call and speaking with him about it...it's probably ok, but I thought I'd post it hear just in case.

Well...the problem is they've been asleep for almost this whole time. I've covered the sides of the viv with computer paper to keep them from seeing outside so I don't give them a heart attack and mostly left them alone except to check on them every once and a while and see if they've moved.

I've noted only one time for each frog when they've been awake and alert and have moved from their starting position. They've both shed one time each, but other than that, like I said, they'd only moved once and for Apollo I actually had to wake him up. I was worried and wanted to see if either of them were interested in food...

    Other than this they seem very healthy, good skin color and health...I can't really say they have bright eyes since I haven't seen much of their eyes when they're awake, but I'm assuming they're eyes are bright. XD;

I may just be jumping the gun...if none of you are concerned I'll just let them be, but if anyone thinks I should call Mike and let him know please tell me. I wanna make sure the frogs are healthy and happy.

Could they be...hibernating? Not sure if frogs do that, but it seems pretty close to the concept...when I woke Apollo to make sure he was still alive it took him an awful long time to open his eyes, I thought this was strange, but he had been sleeping for three days straight without moving so I let it go.

    Thanks for any insight guys!

Sounds like pretty typical Phyllomedusa behavior. How late do you stay up at night? It is not uncommon for some of mine (I don't keep tomopterna but several relatives) to sleep until midnight or later, and if I wasn't such a night owl I would swear they never moved from their resting spots. Have you fed them yet? As long as crickets are disappearing and being replaced by feces I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks for replying Tony, this has been really reassuring. ^ ^ The only frog I've kept besides these are White's, and not even that long so...still pretty much a n00b. XD

I don't stay up too late, with daylight savings I've been going to bed around 1 and I can't really see the frogs since I have the sides of the tank covered, but I'm almost positive they haven't moved. I watch them closely in the day time and have basically memorized their locations. (Sorry if that sounds weird, I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in my freshman year of high school, so it's kind of hard for me not to notice things like that...) I have seen the female defecate once, but that was the first night she was here with me so I assume it was because she was fed with Mike before he sent them down to me.

Crickets have been disappearing, but it was for a different reason unfortunately. I have some sort of gap in the top of the tank and I have to feed them small crickets until they're big enough to eat adults, so not only is there food hard to see, but they had been creeping out through the screen top and into my bed...and the rest of my room. Pretty uncomfortable situation. Other than that, I have been feeding them consistently every other night and solved my escape problem by sealing the gap with moss, hopefully that's worked. I can't really see the crickets though, so either they're eating them (which still I doubt) or they're just hiding too well for me to see them from my vantage point.

If this is natural of Phyllomedusas then I won't worry unless it becomes extreme and I start to see weight loss...then I will call Mike for sure.

Thanks for your reply again Tony, it sets my mind at ease a little, but if anyone else has anything else to say I'd love to hear advice/suggestions.

You could do a little honey water, as this is recomended for new arrivals, especially ones that have been shipped. This might also have a sugar rush benifit, and make them move. I don't even know if this species soak. Has their water been dirty?

I've seen Artemis (female) on the edge of the water bowl with her eyes closed and some mornings it has had little pieces of dirt floating in it, so I think she's been in there but I doubt Apollo (male) has moved much. When I woke him up he jumped to the glass, moved around for a few minutes and went right back to sleep on that glass, the next time I looked at him he was lying on the leaf again, the same spot as those pictures, and Artemis stay in the same spot she was first introduced to as well, the front of the tank on a small rock. I've seen her move more than him. Maybe I will try the honey water...

I bought a bottle of regular honey from Wal Mart a little while ago just to have it on hand, as far as I know it's just normal honey, that's ok right? Is there a way honey can be harmful to frogs? If so I wanna make sure I have the right kind.

I think I'll try the honey bath tonight...they just seem very tired. =shrug=

any honey is fine, just a drop per ounce, mix in well. I would pick them both up and put them in there at night. Even though they'll both be freiked out, they'll sence the honey right away and should stay in there.

So I have updates regarding the honey bath. Some good news and some bad...

I got the frogs out of their viv and into their box with almost no problems. Artemis went first and as soon as I got her off my hand she curled up on the floor of the box and went to sleep so I left her with my friend for a moment and went to get her brother...

I got Apollo on to my hand and over to the box with no problems. He didn't even open his eyes until I reached the vanity area where I do all my frog first aide, it's right outside my room. Once he opened his eyes I put him in the box and he followed his sisters example.

I poured the water in and made sure their noses were above it, though it was hard to tell at times...Anyway, they both sat in the water fine for a few moments and then Apollo woke up abruptly and went straight for the escape. Since they were so quiet and still I though they'd just sit there and didn't put the lid back on so we could look at them...I really hadn't gotten a good look since they came in their box on Thursday...anyway. I ended up having to grab Apollo because he got to the lip of the box before we could get the lid back on and as I tried to get him off my hand he wouldn't cooperate. I held him above the bottom of the box and twisted my hand so he would be inclined to walk into the water. Unfortunately it didn't go down like that.

The twist wasn't violent and I was moving my hand as slowly as possible so I didn't freak him out more than I had too. He ended up falling off of my hand, not a very long way and landing in the water. Suddenly he went flat on his belly, spread his legs out and started to have a seizure. In a panic I stood motionless for a moment trying to register what was happening, then I grabbing him up and he was back to normal. He gripped the wall and started to climb it, this time we got the lid on before he could make an escape. From then on he moved around the sides of the box, eyes wide and bright, moving normally...I don't even really know what happened...

I placed them back in their viv and they seem fine, they're awake and alert. Artemis went into the water bowl for a bit and Apollo is sitting in the back right corner on a leaf, motionless for now but he looks healthy.

My concern is the seizure type thing that happened. I'm beating myself up over this...I know it wasn't directly my fault but I was scared and that probably made his stress worse. I would hate it if this was a real problem...

My friend thinks this is some sort of defense mechanism. Could this be right? It's what I want to believe...he seems fine now, I just hope it stays that way.

The good news is the honey bath seems to have worked, at least they're not sleeping anyway.

    Thanks for reading...

@ Kel: I am still very happy with the service I received from Mike Novy. It is no fault of his that the frogs were lethargic, it was probably the shipping and being on the plane that messed them up...Sorry, I'm trying to be light hearted but I feel terrible. ><

Thanks for the compliments, they are really gorgeous, I just hope I haven't done anything to hurt them. ><

No I wasn't trying to imply hon that you were dissatisfied with them at all... I could tell thru your multipul mentionings of how happy you were that you are indeed happy... it was a joke playing on that... sorry. I need to remember sarcasm doesn't come off so well in text.
