Newts generally have a "triple life" - aquatic larvae, a terrestrial juvenile eft and an aquatic or semi-aquatic adult. Once again, all newts are salamanders. Semantics!

True toads are from the family bufonidae, which the fire bellied toads are not a part of. They are in the Bombinatotidae family which includes all six species of firebellied toads. The thing is they have a lot of physical characteristics of what people think of toads. The warty skin is a big one. I personally think its just semantics.

I agree with Cheri. FBTs are not true toads, but then all toads are frogs
