    Default Back from vacation.

Hello once again. Iam back. I went to puerto rico last week. Gosh let me tell you. I heard alot of frogs over there. A frog called "coqui" constantly chirps. They are hard to find so I couldnt see them. But are easy to hear. There were other typesof tree frogs around. But cant make them out since I dont remember well.

I sometimes wonder if you can keep the "common" coqui as pets. Since they are an infestation in hawaii. There are more species of these. But I never dared to ask? Anywho. If anyone ever gets the chance to see one. itll become your favorite frog. It sure is mine. :] I constantly saw brown anoles. I saw a rare "green" anole. Well rare to puertorico. I saw a giant snake. A LOT of green iguanas(adults) and I saw a type of plated lizard? It looked like a plated. It was fun.

There are several species called Coqui. There is a species called the Puerto Rican Coqui but I believe there are several members of the genus Eleutherodactylus on the island. I've seen a few kinds in the Caribbean. Some occasionally turn up in the pet trade.

Seriously? Id love to get my hands on the puertorican coqui. I love their melody. THEY ALWAYS sing. ALWAYs. Well during nightime or heavy rain. I wanted to bring one home but to save myself the grief I didnt. I was bummed. In fact the reason I got firebellied toads in the first place was mainly because their sound reminded me of the coqui.

So you're serious? You can somehow acquire one? That is my favorite treefrog in the world. I always was told it was illegal to own one. But then a while back I realized how big their numbers are I was thinking the heck these guys talking about? Their so common in their native range. Its like keeping a pacman or an african bullfrog. Or even a firebellied toad. Well in the sense that they are generally common in their range.

Where in Puerto Rico were you? I have a ton of family there. And I miss the coqui! It was always one of my favorite things about my trips over there.

I didn't realize there were other species of coqui. I had heard (falsly, apparently) that it was only on the island of Puerto Rico and that people had tried to take it out of the island, and to introduce it on other islands, and they always fail.

    Places:
    Fajardo
    Luquillo
    San Juan

and a few places in between.

Yes there are alot of coqui species. The most common one is I THINK the brown coqui? Which is also found in hawaii. Its an invasive species over there. I THINK they arent protected. I dont know. All I know is Id like to get my hands on a few of them.

I visited mainly cause of my gramma that has alzheimers and she was in very bad care. Her husband didnt care for her and she lost her memory for 3 weeks. She was in poor conditions, my uncle took her to the hospital and now she resides in a home for the elderly. Which to be honest when I get old Id probaby like to live there myself.

She gets 3 square meals a day and not like the ones that are crappy made in a normal elderly home. They home make the meals and it even smells good. They make sure she has everything. Lol. We made sure shes pampered and well taken care of. Hopefully for the best nothing happens.

This also means I and my family gets to go to puertorico every couple of months. Everything over there is beautiful. The scenery is beautiful, the people are beautiful, everything over there. I went to the beach I saw a coqui but it was out of reach. It was when I learnt to swim. We were crabbing. We were heading back and we saw one. It was an inch big or so maybe less? But it was on a wall. We heard it and thats how we saw it.

They make calls throughout the year. When I start a family of my own Ima buy a summer house over there. I guess in the mean time Ill try taking pictures next time I go. Though I did take two decent pictures of it.

Best part about it is how you got alot of things to do.
I went quading, herping(found snakes, and lizards), crabbing, swimming, etc.
I noticed for the people who cant swim if you go to the beach called "el banario" you dont have to know how to swim. I think its the water density that helps you float. I was like floating around in the water I didnt even realize it. After a while I even learnt how to swim (doggy style?)

Anywho it was very fun. if you ever return visit fajardo. :P Also if you ever wanna eat good food. Somewhere I think its in Hato rey. Or was it luqillo? I forget. But theres this REALLy nice criolla reust. Its runned by this very thin woman and this guy. Its part criolle and part chinese reustarant. Its really good though and its fancy to an extent. Though it has these annoying lights. Like on the two corners its bright red then it goes to light blue then to yellow.

I never got to see the cane toads for some reason. Maybe their not there anymore?

I adore Puerto Rico. Last time I was there, I spent a month and I took like 300 pics. My family took me all over.I went to El Yunque, to the Phosphorescent Bay, went to some beaches, went to some caves, saw the large single dish telescope, San Juan. And god, I miss the food.

I have never seen a coqui though. I've seen plenty of lizards and salamanders. I didn't see any cane toads last time I was there.

Being raised in a weird family. We fight for food. Even if there is enough. I think its just each member trying to show their place in the family? xD I dont know. Sometimes my family behaves like animals. Had you been raised under the same roof youd best guard your plate. Especially when my grandma is cooking. I remember my brother would try to snatch food from my plate and I would grab a fork and stab it against the table(not really going to do it onto him but more of like a harmless threat) it was kinda funny because when I was trying to fend him off my other brother would snatch tortilla off my plate. It was hectic. Though I was 5 so yeah. So they had to make sure there was plenty extra food. But then I guess thats how brothers behave? Anywho our grandmas cooking was the best meals we ever had we joked about my moms cooking. Since shes not the best of cooks. Well back then it was terrible. Now its better and good. But its weird I guess. Cause my dad was also the better cook of the two. So whenever we go to puertorico I think my dad will be the one cooking. That being since my grandma is in no state of any kind of work. Shes long overdue for a break. Funny thing about puertorican grandparents and elderly is. For the most part they like to work. My grandma always would stuff my plate with food. But I guess I now know why. I did'nt mind though it was very good.

I also remember how people let their dogs lose. So if someone wanted a dog. All you had to do is go out in the streets and look for strays. :P thats what we used to do. We always took strays. We only had three bought dogs. But the strays only lasted a year in our home before we relocated them. I guess it was our own thing? We fostered them I guess? I remembered how I got into reptiles. See when I was 10 I got my first personal pet. You know how a dog is a family pet? Well my brothers had goldfish as their own pets. One of my brothers had an angelfish which didnt last long since he had it only in a 5gallon tank. I had a betta fish. Back then I barely knew anything. I just knew facts about fish and such. Then my passion for animals grew stronger. When I became 12 my dad promised me my own pet when we get to america. Which was when I finished 8th grade. Turning 13. The first few months of moving in we went to petstores just to browse. I saw hamsters and I wanted one but I waited more because I wanted to see all my options. Then when I went to nyc. I saw this adorable red eared slider. It was the smallest of its kind. SO I bought it. I didnt know much about its care. But my dad prefered aquatics over land animals. So we placed it in a 10gallon aquarium. After 3 years he grew big. So we put it in a 40breeder. Then we went to my grandmas house and took pictures of him. Which we then saw a coqui. We went to el yunque. Oh if you ever return there. Nothing beats roasted pork. You should also go to this park in manati it has these huge puertorican sliders. I went there since I was 2years old. The turtles grew bigger by the time I was 13. Also you should fly kites in san juan. Theres also el banario de fajardo. Its very pretty.
