I'm far from an expert but know that tree frogs need good ventilation. A good terrarium would be an exo terra one (glass, with a mesh lid). You're right in thinking that they prefer a vertical set-up. He'll also need a dish of water treated with a dechlorinating solution (as should your spraying water be). A good temporary substrate would be damp kitchen paper (needs changing regularly!)
They'll eat crickets/locusts/wax worms(high in fat, more a treat than a staple!)/roaches and also meal worms (which are high in chitin which also causes compaction!) so should be fed sparingly.
Food should should also be dusted with a calcium supplement (not entirely sure how often, mine get it once or twice a week!)
