    Default External terrarium

    I keep 13 African Bullfrog.
Only 4 are adults, age 6 year old. Only 3 males and 1 female. The other frogs have 1 year, most are females.
I could never breed. I try to keep all year round temperature of Buenos Aires, Argentina. I think that some of our temperature is similar to South Africa, only wetter.
Only adults are in the terrarium
Anyone have real experience in the reproduction of this species?

I believe you have to use hormone injections.

Yes, the constant and relatively humid (compared to their natural Africa) weather is not triggering a breeding response. You need to research the use (and risks involved) on hormone injections. Another option (not necessarily simple or easy) would be to try an area with weather wet/dry cycles closer to their natural home like the Southern Chaco . Buena suerte !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

I understand. Hormone problem, try to induce hormone same I use in Ceratoprhys, but did not work. I can not access the hormones used.
I agree that the best place would be an area like the Chaco, where Ceratophys and Lepidobatrachus lives.
I do not have those tools at the disposal. Another problem, today it rained and 4 were active. I had to terrarium make the largest male, the female would eat.
I hope you understand my bad English.

You don't have access to the hormones needed and you were afraid the largest male and female would eat the others correct?

It is dangerous to keep together. A month ago are sharing terrarium. First day they were buried. Today it rained and they were active. The male, try to eat the female. I had to remove it from his mouth.
    bcreps upload new photos tomorrow.

They are very cannibalistic. Any one of them that is greatly larger than another makes the smaller frogs a potential food source.

Yes. I know, perfectly. It's hard to start a breeding Project.

In the wild there are many male suiters that fight and compete for breeding rights. Females swim underwater from behind and go under the male so that he can mount her and she doesn't get attacked. I'm not sure how crutial that part is to getting them to breed.

Thanks, but I think it's wrong the aquatic part. It is very deep. They amplexan in flooded grasslands, maybe I should be bigger.
    I'm disappointed lol.

Lol! They do breed in swamps too and not every area is shallow, but I believe you are right that the water needs to be shallow enough so that they can touch the bottom.

I hope that you can figure it out.

I think not. I think the aestivation is necessary for the female is in breeding condition.

Yes. Also the underground temp during aestivation needs to be maintained at a consistant 68°F.
