Great advice from Carlos but I have found that using certain types of box cutter can be tricky and dangerous,

There are two types of knives that will help make this job safer and easier.

After cleaning out everything turn the aquarium on its side.
and use a regular box cutter to cut the silicone around the plexi glass. and as Carlos said be careful around the joints of the glass aquarium.

Use one of these.

and not one like the one below, The blade will snap when you apply too much force and could fly off and cause an accident.

After you have removed the plexi glass.
You can use one of these type of razor knives to carefully clean silicone off the glass

And always use a new blade, a sharp blade is safer and makes the job easier.
I didn't know exactly what these knives are called so I figured that a picture is worth a 1000 words LOL

Good luck and after doing this I would set the aquarium out side on top of news papers and fill it to at least 3/4 full
and let sit for a few hours and see if you have any leaks before filling again indoors.
