Hissers and Dubias

Demon A, we personally have kept hissers with dubias. Hissers will prey upon dubia nymphs. Where does your knowledge of them not doing so come from?

I keep 300+ hissers in with one of my dubia colonies they pose a threat if you do not have enough moisture just as you would have a threat with adult dubia's cannibalizing on there own young. No more of a threat no less, so if you know what you are doing you wont have this problem. And how long have you kept a colony? just wondering. If i remember right you didnt have a colony as of a about a month ago. So my 15 months and 10's of thousands of roaches breeding vibrantly and I am friends with a few roach breeding experts who breed over 2 dozen different species of roaches is where i get my knowledge from. Dubia's and hissers ARE compatible, however if you would like a list of roaches that are not compatible i can provide that.

With this said it is always good to separate the infant roaches and keep them in their own bin regardless if you have hissers in there or not. Their own mothers will eat them if conditions are not right. They just flat out do better separated. But this is only if you really wanna get nit picky. I separate mine because I am culturing about 5,000 a month plus 1000 every month. So this month i am expecting 6,000 babies and 7,000 to 8,000 for the month of April. As many as i have that are nymphs about to be adults by August or September i will be expecting 20,000ish a month. If i didn't remove the babies it would be a big mess. I clean my breeder bin once a month and this is the bin i keep the hissers. Although i have only had them in there for going on 2 months i have had very very little cannibalism going on. I do mist every day which i believe has a huge impact on that factor.

So from my experience and what i learn from experts and also online articles hissers pose no more of a threat than the adult dubia's do. If the habitat conditions are where they should be..... Now if you disagree simply remove them easy as that. A new set up shouldn't cost more then 20 bucks.

I would recommend west cost roaches, they are the cheapest i have found and they have a very good method of shipping. They over count very generously. If you have any further questions please PM me and i will give you in-depth details.

No problem. I did happen across an add on this site from an online store that had awesome prices on Dubias as well but I can't find which one it was. But I don't think they include shipping so it may even out. None the less west coast is the site I use and they never disappoint. Good luck and if you need more some time in mid summer I should have plenty.

If my memory is correct as well, you told me that the going rate for adult dubia was 3.00 a piece. You also said you needed to buy 1000 more. So do you have 20,000 and you still need to buy more after your 15 months of keeping? Feel free to PM me with your concerns, i'm not interested in arguing on a forum.

And yes i did need 1,000 more after selling half my colony. I sold about 12,000 to a local pet store. I was wanting to get another 1,000 just to give my colony a slight boost so that in a few months i could once again start giving free roaches to a few people on this site (which one of those people included you) and sell to pet stores and feed my own frogs and toads at the same time. Also i wanted to introduce a new batch of roaches to see if it would improve breeding.

So next time please try to be more respectful when replying to posts, that is a sure way to avoid being put on blast. And trust me i think i have a few more things to blast you about. congrats on the job by the way. I suppose you wont be needing free roaches any more?

I guess you didn't understand the whole "not wanting to argue on a forum." Thank you for trying to "put me on a blast." I could go on and on blah blah "LLLreptiles is the most outrageously priced dubia on the inet etc etc" there are even threads with people thinking LLL had made a mistake on the cost for dubia, because of how high the price was. so blah blah, personal insult on lifestyle etc etc blah blah. Dont really care, if "putting people on blast" and pointing out the highest cost of feeders on the internet makes you feel better, then feel free. Whatever makes you feel better. I don't need free roaches, maybe I can buy some from you in person?
