Not that it matters at the moment, but I was just told some pretty disturbing things about what went on while my frog was in someone else's care. Apparently, she was frequently left alone for two or three days with no one to come in and mist her, with no temperature equipment either during the summer when it could get up to 95 degrees or in the winter when it could easily go down to 50 even indoors.
I am incredibly ticked off about this, because this person was given explicit instructions and all the equipment necessary to follow through with them. What's more, I wasn't told about this for a duration of probably about 8 or 9 months that my pet was there. Even after being told why these things could be fatal, this person told me that I was just being silly.
At least I now have an explanation for a lot of the health problems Trevor has that were just dumbfounding me before. Mostly, I'm lucky I got her back and was able to do damage control when I did.
Thankfully most of her issues are manageable.
The lesson here is that, if you need a reptile sitter, it's better to get someone who keeps reptiles of their own.
She was being offered food during that time as well. I'm thinking that heat fluctuations with food still in her system are definitely the reason for the almost sepsis-like bloating she had near the beginning of the summer. Toxins could have built up in her system causing neurological damage, which finally gives me a reason for her 'narcolepsy' and her tendency to get impacted easily.
I should say that this person legitimately did not believe they were harming Trevor, and would never do something they THOUGHT would harm an animal. It's more a case of refusing to believe information from a knowledgeable source. Regardless, people only get one chance when it comes to my ectothermic friends, and this person will not be pet-sitting for me in the future.
