    Talking New Tarantulas & Roaches

So my AWESOME friend in Texas finally sent the package I've been waiting on this week

She sent me a 2 year old female suntiger (approx 3"). Two tiny baby curly haired tarantulas, and a tiny baby straight horned baboon tarantula. Giant cave roaches, deathhead roaches, and some baby glowspot roaches.

    Curly Hair #1

    Curly Hair #2

and this is what I'm keeping all 3 slings in util they are bigger.

I didn't get any photos of the baboon yet becaue it was being a total freak out.

    Here my gorgeous suntiger ^__^

Already eating a lobster roach, not even in her new cage for 10 minutes before she accepted a roach from the forceps!

I also got a few species of roaches yesterday. Here are my two favorites!

    Giant Cave Roaches

Sorry for the blurry image, this is to give you a better idea of just how giant they are!

and a crappy shot of an adult Death Head Roach

    Hope you enjoyed

Maybe one day if I'm successful with them and have tons of extras a few will become feeders. Until that day they will be regarded more as pets.

Very nice new additions Cam! The T's are gorgeous... and the roaches are brilliant ; )

I'd like to see photos of those glowspots too! What species did you end up with?

If you end up with excess Blaberus giganteus down the road let me know if you'd like to trade for some new species - I've been meaning to get my hands on some of those guys.

    Awesome new critters.

Glow Spot Roaches are awesome. Def one of my favs. Right now I have L. subcinta but I hope to eventually pick up the other sp. of glow spots.

I find my giganteus to be pretty boring however. I just keep them around because they make a nice display at shows.

She only sent me about a dozen small nymphs and 3 or 4 larger nymphs. Stupidly I threw them in a 10 gallon with substrate, so I'm not sure when I can expect to see one of them again :P They aren't anything to look at yet anyway, just small brown nymphs. No spots yet or anything. I have no idea what species. I assumed there was only one species of glowspot.

I am hoping I will be successful with them. If I am I'll definitely be happy to send you some.

Yeah, I have no idea what species I have. I'll find out if I can. What abou them makes them your favorite?

Yeah, I don't know anything about their behavior yet. I just know they are stunning as adults.

I'm so jealous of the straight horned baboon! That's been on my want list forever, I can just never find one when I'm in the position to a get a new T. I need to see pictures of the baby! The suntiger and those cave roaches are pretty sweet, too.

I am excited to watch it get bigger. Right now it's so small you can't even see the horn really. If it ever comes back out of its burrow I will try to snap a photo of it Honestly, it's not much too look at right now, just a plain brown tiny tarantula.

    Update!

I found the shed to my straight horn baboon right on the surface last night. I don't check on them but two or three times a week (I don't like disturbing them too much), but I would say it's a pretty fresh molt because its abdomen is still pretty tiny. All I had to do to get the baboon to come out was poke at its tunnel a few times.

The curly hairs HAD to have molted because they are at least twice as big now as they were. They have (had) mounds of dirt and web every where, and I was unable to find the molts. I wouldn't have dug through their substrate just to find molts, but I hadn't seen them for some time, and since this is my first time with T's I get a little nervous. I wanted to make sure they were still alive and doing well, so I opted to (gently) dig them up.

When I got the baboon to come out my reaction was like "Yeah, it is definitely growing," but when the first curly hair came out my reaction was more like "OMG!!! IT'S THREE TIMES BIGGER!!!!"

My suntiger is like NEVER outside of her den. The breeder that gave her to me said it may take a while before she emerges. I lifted the cork that her entrance is under and managed to get a shot of her abdomen. She has DEFINITELY been eating since I got her, she was freshly molted and very thin when she arrived. I'm happy to see all 4 of my new T's are doing well.

    Now for the photos

Curly Hair Sling #1 (smaller of the two)

Curly Hair Sling #2 (bigger of the two)
