You see, I don't think it's the substrate, because it is suitable for amphibians too, and I have used it before, without effects such as these happening... But the specialist over the phone has told me that it does often happen to frogs to react this way when they change tanks... I'll try some of the methods that you've been giving me, I'm meant to phone the vets tomorrow to let them know about the progress anyway, I just got very worried when I saw the frog just sit there with it's mouth open, it made me panic, but it might have just been stress, or the fact that it has never been given any antibiotics before?
I'll keep you informed anyway, thank you so much for all your help folks

It only takes one impaction to change your mind about a product. I would personally put him into a hospital tank and make sure everything is coming out ok. If he is stressed about the tank change, I would put him back into his old tank too! I would also cover the hosptial tank or whatever he is in with paper towels or newspaper for some extra privacy.

Hmmm yes, I should change it, but what could be better for tree frogs? There isn't a great choice anywhere nearby, but I could always order something in, any suggestions?

Coco fiber seems to be what everyone strongly suggests for tree frogs. It is about the same color as the reptibark and great for humidity.

I second this. Look for Eco Earth coconut fiber(not husk) or Plantation soil.

I recommend not using paper towels! When cleaning my frogs enclosure, I put him in a separate containervwith paper towel. When I looked over at him, he had the paper towel in his mouth, with over three inches down his throat! It took me more than 15 minutes to slowly remove the paper towel, while he kept trying to suck more in. I really thought he was going to die.
