I have his tank covered so he wont be freaked out by anything. I was just at the supermarket and I picked up some honey just incase it was time for a warm honey bath. Does it sound like I need to?
If he seems lathargic he may need one to give him an energy boost. Only do the honey bath once. Keep an eye on his behavior and keep me posted. I've seen this before. If he stops eating compnetely for a week or more it can be life threatening to him.

Re: My Pakku is acting strange :(
Okay so I did the honey bath yesterday for about 15 mins and he looked like he perked up a bit. Set him in his tank and threw in 3 more crickets incase he felt like eating. When I woke up, I found him under the half log thing I got him (closer to the heat pad) just looking at me lol. Now, I fear that I'm not getting the right daytime temps. As I left for work, it was reading just over the 75 marker. So what's the next step if the pad isnt providing heat unless its just on that small area, heating bulb?
Edit: Also last night when I picked up the feeding container I had him in for a bit, there was poop stuck to the bottom of the container from when I had it in his tank on top of the substrate. So I mean, that has to be a good sign of him doing okay, right?

Its good by meaning that he isn't impacted. The honey bath also helps them poop.
Do you use any heat lamps? If not you need to get one. Fluker's Clamp Lamp with dimmer and a daylight basking bulb. From Exo Terra called Sun Glo and an infrare bulb for night. Make sure they are both 50 watts no higher. You must use these incandescent bulbs in combination with a lamp that has a dimmer switch. Buy a fake plant too for cover. Place the fake pland directly under where the beam of light shines on the soil.
Get his temps up and keep me posted.

Alright. I have the half log in there now for cover. Where I'll be positioning the light will be over that. That should be fine right? Going to take a lunch break right now and go get that light. The lighting I was using was a standard low watt light for day/night cycle mostly.

He needs shade. A fake plant with wide leaves to also shade his eyes. While he sleeps so it doesn't bug him too much. Plus I bet he will love to have it to burrow next to.

Alright I have fake plants left over from my red eye's old viv
ok good news and maybe bad news? The infrared one they had a 50 watt and got it, the sun glo one only had 100 and 150... I got the 100 in hopes that I can just dim it down with my flukers dimming lamp. :/

That bad news for sure. You won't be able to use the 100 watt. It will cook your frog even with the dimmer. Also it will be too bright. The lamp can only handle up to 75 watts anyway so the lamp itself won't be able to handle the bulb.
When you take the 100 watt Exo Terra back look for a Zoo Med Basking Spotlight. Its the same as the Exo Terra just made by Zoo Med.

Re: My Pakku is acting strange :(
So I just got home from work and the UTH that I JUST purchased yesterday isn't emitting any heat -____- just my luck. Luckily I still have all the packaging and receipt so I will be taking that thing back first thing in the morning.
-
-
S13, it takes a while for the UTH to kick in. I have a zoo med UTH (among others) and it took about 24 hours before it started emitting heat, and about 48 hours before it was fully operational. Depending on how long you've had it running, leave it on a bit longer before changing it.

Mine start emitting heat within minutes. The Zoo Med usually don't. Take very long to heat up. It could be a damaged one. All mine are Zoo Med UTHs. Martin do you mean that it takes 24 hours to start heating the tank and 48 hours to reach full output in the tank? If so that's probably right, but mine become warm witin minutes of being plugged in. Something isn't right with the one he has.

Re: My Pakku is acting strange :(
Yeah I got a zoo med one for the 10-20 gallon. It got warm within minutes. I placed my hand near it before going to work to make sure it was going and it was. Came home last night and it was cold, I left it plugged in all last night to see if it was just being weird and it was still cold. Taking it back.

Yep that sounds like it malfunctioned. Must have been a bad one.

Well, can't argue with that. Just thought it was worth mentioning that they sometime takes a while before doing their business.

Re: My Pakku is acting strange :(
Ok heat pad was exchanged. New one is on there, infared bulb is going at the moment dimmed down a bit, and I now have the day bulb. Earlier I tried the feeding tank method for Pakku again and he went berserk
started peeing and flopping around in there. I have already read thats signs of severe stress so I took him out of there immediately, threw away the crickets that were in there. I dusted about 4 more and threw them in his tank where he's covered up for the night, poor thing :\ When I did put them in I saw him lunge at one but missed so here's hoping to see 0 crickets in the tank tomorrow morning...

Be patient and keep stress as low as possible. He will come around.

Re: My Pakku is acting strange :(
Thanks, I removed the half log because all it was doing was creating a safe haven for pinheads chilling on top of it while he was inside of it not having a chance to hunt them. So now its substrate, fake plant directly under the path of the light water dish on the opposite side of the heat mat. I'm keeping him covered at night. Nothing to bother them during the day as I am at work from 2-10pm (unless the cats are tormenting them
) Anyway I'm kind of tempted to get some nightcrawlers and dangle one in his face tonight to see what happens.

I highly recomend night crawlers as a staple food source. Since he is sort of small just cut 1 inch pieces of night crawler or a little bigger, but not much and offer them to him. Red wigglers are also good. Dust and offer them up.

Re: My Pakku is acting strange :(
Hmmm okay gonna have to research where I can get this stuff in town. Are the nightcrawlers from Walmart fishing area suitable?
