Default Has anyone used a croton in vivarium

    Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has successfully kept a croton in their vivarium. I have one but I'm hesitant to put it in with my tree frogs. I know they are poisonous to cats and dogs if ingested.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

I have not used crotons in the terrarium. If my botany professor is correct, these plants are poisonous and can cause skin irritations in humans. They are nice to look at but do not touch.

Oh great! I have a croton in a pot in my bombina tank. It does contrast nicely with the green/black on the toads. They don't climb on it or sleep near it. When I re-decorate my tank I will take it out. I get so frustrated selecting plants that aren't toxic to my tortoises and now I have to worry about the darn amphibs. All the prettiest ones are dangerous.

I have. I had one in my setup with green tree frogs for about 6-8 months. No ill effects that I could detect. I removed it only because it was only producing plain green leaves which they tend to do when there's not a lot of light (it was under 2 40 watt flourescents not enough apparently). It's in the living room now where it gets more light and back to producing the multi-color leaves we've all come to expect of it. Also, FWIW, I've touched the leaves plenty of times and have never had any skin irritation. I do not intend to eat it though.
