Talking Red Eye Tree Frog of a VERY Different

So we've all heard of Albino Red Eye Tree Frogs, Some of us have heard of Leucistic and Xanthic Red Eyes.
    But
Who's heard of a Melanistic (Black) Red Eye Tree Frog?

I hadn't until recently. Only 2 photos can be found as far as I've searched. Both from one breeder.

I am completely INSANE you see, so I contacted this breeder, and as of this morning, officially Purchased one.

if all goes well, I will be receiving (her?) on Wednesday!

Until otherwise proven, I am going to call it female, just because. LoL.

Debating naming her Aruba or Rio. Any other "locality" themed names you guys can think of? My current Classically Handsome boy is named Panama!

    Yes..... they are beautiful!
    Congratulations!

Can't wait to see to see photos.
Don't forget to take some 'unpacking' photos.

I always get so nervous on a frog delivery day.

I think Michael Novy is breeding them as well ?

Congrats on your new frog and wish it a safe arrival. Seen them before and think they are cute, but still prefer the greens .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Corey! Can you post pics of your Blacks? I'd love to see some adults!! (The one I'm receiving is 1.5 inch long)

Sorry I beg to disagree. I for one to not like genetics of any form. This is probably going to rattle a few feathers on here but genetics should not be tampered with for the sake of earning a few dollars. Nature has a way!! why play with fire.

Ill be honest and agree with James on this. Although I am an owner of the morphed black frogs, the regular red eye tree frogs are much more beautiful and I think should we worth more money than any MORPH. My only guess to why you get these morphs is through LINE breeding. (Breeding of the same bloodline) Which in my eyes is a big NO NO. However to each their own.

    Very pretty frogs.
So... these are purposefully created via human breeding, and do not exist in nature?
Also, curious if they can be housed with the regular red -eye?

No they don't, they might look beautiful to our eyes but this are genetic anomalies so in the nature they are just easy targets for the predators.

She is beautiful, so interesting to look at. But May I ask, did you quarantine her first?

that enclosure is 100% all hers. She is half the size of my other red-eye so they are going to be apart for quite some time!

Ok just checking. She is quite a gem! Keep us posted with pics!

Where did you get her from? I know Michael Novy is working with them currently, but he is the only breeder I'm aware of.
