Hi everyone ive run into a problem and cant decide.
Alright heres the story, i have a viv all done and was looking for some red eye tree frogs someone offered me 5 for $100 all or none the only problem is that they are wild caught
Is this a good deal or should i continue searching for some captive bred red eyes
Would 5 fit in a 29 gallon

Im not sure about the cost of RETF but that terrarium is too small in my opinion for 5 I would think 3 max.

10 gallons per 1 frog is usually a good rule to go by.

Can you post pics of your terrarium It might help others in makeing a proper judgement who are more familiar with RETF's?

I was originally planning on 3 frogs but this guy said he wanted to sell all five together
Whats your opinion on wild caught frogs opposed to captive bred ones?
As for pics im working on getting my camera to work so ill try to get those asap

I got my first retf and was told it was captive bred but found out it was wild caught it only lasted a month as for my captive bred alpha its been 7 months that I've had him ! I think captive bred is safer !

You should never buy wild caught captives when captive-bred specimens are available. For one, doing so just encourages collection of specimens whose species are already in decline and possible introduction or further facilitation of the chytrid fungus into new and affected areas, respectively. On that note, if purchasing wild caught specimens there is a good chance they might already be infected, considering how pervasive the fungus is.

I have five RETF, all captive bred, and I have mine in a 75 gallon 36"Lx24"Hx18"W viv and considering how large the females can be and how active these frogs are, this is the smallest size I would use for five.

Ten gallons per frog is a good rule to go by and when doing so, dont include the number of gallons taken up by your substrate.

Thanks for all the help i think ill pass this deal up because i didnt want wild caught frogs and i only wanted three the only thing was the price was a good deal and it was local thanks

i have two red eyes in my 29gal poludarium, and still have lots of space, but then again, they are very young and still small.

A standard thirty gallon aquarium is way too small for five full grown adult RETF. Especially considering typical thirty gallon tanks are long and not tall and you can't include space taken up by substrate in a "one frog per ten gallons" or even "one frog per five gallons" guideline. The latter would be cramped and could facilitate poor husbandry unless proper steps toward biological management are taken, for example, including decomposers in your substrate. Further, giving everyone enough space for thermoregulation would be a challenge.

Thirty gallons is enough room for four or five froglets (less than 6cm) for sure! : ]

Well i am probably going to be ordering three red eye tree frogs offline and putting them in my vivarium
Just to clear up any confusion the dimensions of the tank are 30"x12"x20" (lxwxh)
This should be enough room for three right there is about 4" of substrate in the highest spot

I'll never buy wild caught frogs again once i bought 3 white lipped tree frogs and they ate but lasted 3 months i had lack of info at the time and i caused lots of damage now theres 3 less frogs in the wild ,3 less frogs in my tank ,and more money for the pet store.and its up to us to stop this
