After my young toad eats a large meal (small meal worms or pinhead crickets) it opens it mouth as if to burp or gag without the stomach retching. I know they are created to be eating machines but this one is crazy and won't hop away from food, unlike the other one. Any input would be great. This is my first time keeping them & I just want to make sure they are happy & healthy. Here's a video of our morning routine.
My toads often open and close their mouths - not as wide as a yawn (like when they shed) - when they are hungry and excited about eating. In general, I have noticed that my toads wiggle their toes and open and close their mouths when they are truly excited by their prey. As they get full, these behaviors stop. The toe-wiggling has been discussed in other threads and may stimulate their prey to move. The function of the "lip-smacking" is not obvious to me...
Greg, the mouth thing only happens after eating, not before. That's why I was wondering if eating to much or to fast is causing this. This one is a real hog when it comes to food. Have not noticed toe wiggling.
Looks perfectly normal to me. Great video by the way!

Well if you guys say this is "normal" then I'm not gonna worry about it. Thanks.
