Knats are a small fly. Flies are attracted to sweet things or other odors. Crickets can smell pretty bad so maybe they are attracted to the smell.

I have the same anoiying problem withe gnats and there maggots. Doe any one know what will eat the danm maggots, they eat my roaches.
