Default Tiny new RETF...holy cow is he /she tiny!

Wow! I just got my new RETF. She is so tiny.

She is currently in her temporary terrarium. She is active and looks healthy, yay!

My big RETF looks HUGE compared to her.

When will it be safe to put her in my other terrarium? And do I have to wait until she is a certain size being my other is about 3" in size. She is just barely over 1" or so.

    Thanks!

You should have her quarantined for at least 30 days no matter the size. Hope that helps!! And congrats on your new baby

If she's about an inch right now you'll probably have to end up waiting 60 days before she'll be big enough to put in with the other female. At about an inch and a half you should be okay. The females tend grow bigger faster. At about an inch the girls take off early, but the boys tend to grow at a slower pace. Just my observations.

I am feeding my baby flightless fruit flies and tiny crickets. The flies crawl out of the dish. How will I know if she/he is eating?

He/she seems to be more interested in exploring.

To me...by the time they hit an inch they didn't seem so delicate. Keep her in a small tank (ten gallons is fine). I keep my temp setups really simple. I have a moist paper towel on the floor, a single medium size pothos in a pot and a water bowl that I raised off the ground so the crickets couldn't crawl in. At night I would put in about ten small crickets. I stopped the fruit flies by the time the frogs got that size....although the drosophelia hydei are larger and would probably be a good size. In the morning I would take out the paper towel and count any remaining crickets. The tank was easy to clean, baby frogs can easily find food and you can monitor what they eat.

That makes it easy. She is in a ten gallon. I'll try it and see what she does.

Yeah, keep the tank sparse so the frog will be easier to monitor. Im doing this with my young white's who are being fed melo's and bean beetles (which are about 1/4 inch). The beetles are my substitute for hydei. Look for feces as a sign of feeding.

Also, be sure to use a supplement during feeding for young frogs to avoid deficiency issues later.

These are two of the most important things when monitoring new baby frogs. If they're pooping and it's a good consistency then you have a healthy eating frog. A lot of times we don't have all night to sit around and stare at our frogs and especially if they're new and babies you really don't want to be doing that anyways because all it will do is stress them out. Cover up three sides of the tank...keep it pitch black at night and leave your frog with her baby crickets completely alone. In the morning while she is asleep you can lift out the Pothos that she is sleeping on, clean up your paper towel, do a cricket head count and look for frog poop. This is a stress free approach that works and it keeps the tank very clean. You won't have to worry about bacterial infections because everything is cleaned each day. And it will only take a few minutes. Happy frogs will sleep on the plant so you won't have to disturb their sleep. She'll fatten up and grow quickly. Feed her as much as she'll eat every night. You don't have to worry about Red Eyes overeating...they don't really get obese unlike some other frogs. Make sure the crickets are no bigger than the distance between her eyes. I keep my baby Red Eyes around 70% humidity with good ventilation on top. They will tend to sleep on the top leaves and underneath them. Good luck with her and post some pictures of her when she is all settled in.

Thanks so much! : ) This a picture of her arrival. I'll get a few more after she/he's more settled in. How long until I can tell if she/he is female/male?

Maybe 8 months to a year, I'd say. Sometimes earlier

Awesome. I love red-eyes. I dont really get why we make such a fuss over albinos and xanthic, etc...they're pretty awesome with their normal coloration,

The most iconic frog out there!

I think they're so pretty with all of their colors. My first one is smooth and sly. My new baby is energetic and an explorer. Too cute! I love to watch them.
