Default New substrate in Pyxie tanks....

After everyone's great advice, I got rid of the jungle bark and swtiched to 3-4" of organic soil and coconut fiber combo. I've inlcuded some pics. Basic set-up, I know. Any further suggestions would be great, but I've already noticed my frogs liking the texture of the soil better. Thanks everyone!!

Hmm I don't know for sure. How big are the chips? Are they sharp? Are they hard or soft?

But if it is not too much trouble i would remove it to be on the safe side.

It is Oophaga.pumilio, Blue Jeans Strawberry Poison Dart Frog. They live in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. If you are in Malaysia this is not your frog. Try to photogragh one and we can attempt to identify it for you.

I had the same issue the first time I bought an coconut fiber bedding. Some of the bricks are really more like mulch or wood chips. If you buy Eco Earth you won't have that issue. It comes in the bricks, but you can also get it in bags.

No need to change it, but those chunks do pose an ingestion hazard.

I would cheat and use a bit of hardware cloth to sift out the big pieces. You also may want to feed your critter in a separate container, just to be safe.
Watching FrogTV because it is better when someone else has to maintain the enclosure!
