Hi! I have Big-Eyed tree frogs and I've always used coconut fiber for their substrate. It's too messy for me to continue to keep up with. Can I use cage carpet, with some moss to help humidity? I use a fogger so humidity is rarely an issue.![]()
Instead of changing it out, you could try some other things. You could get some ground cover plants or live moss in there, or you could put some large river rocks on it.
If changing it is an issue, you could seed it with some springtails and make sure you have plenty of live plants in it. Then you wont have to change the coconut fiber.

Since most RETFs and BETFs rather not walk around on the substrate in the first place, I have to ask what accents are in the frogs tank to allow for movement around the tank without having to step onto the substrate?
Rather than replace the substrate, why not add a layer of leaf liter on top which helps retain moisture, gives the frog a clean place to step, and adds some color to the tank.
Post a pic of the tank and maybe someone will have some suggestions.
