I'm new to this forum. I recently finished building my 40 gallon tall vivarium that I was planning on adding a pair of white lip tree frogs to. I have a false bottom which will drain any excess water but I have a few questions to ask before I get my frogs.
1. My tank seems to stay around the 79 degree range, is that warm enough? I have a large zoo med heat pad on the side which helps it stay around that number.
2. How important is air circulation/ventilation? Right now my tank is complete glass so there really isn't any air going in or out, which is also keeping the humidity around 85%. I can easily replace the top with screen or do half glass half screen if the current setup wouldn't be good for the frogs.
Thanks in advance for any help. I've tried looking around for these answers but have found many different things. Some say good ventilation, others say it's not required. So it would be nice to get some advice from some white lip owners themselves.
Ventalation is important for tree frogs. You should probably change the top. I have a whites tree frog so it is different but someone else may be able to answer better.
Thanks for getting back so quick. I will change the top tomorrow. Do you think half glass/half screen would be enough or should I just go all screen?
I would probably do full but half should work too. I am not a expert. But I do know tree frogs need the ventalation.
My White Lipped is probably the most tolerant frog that I have. Your tank temp is fine. Mine doesn't even mind it a few degrees cooler at night. Just make sure it has a few different levels to rest at if you have a light on top. The bottom of the tank will be cooler than top so they can get away from the light if necessary. I would recommend a full or half mesh top though as ventilation is important with tree frogs. Don't worry about the humidity dropping some with the mesh top. Mine doesn't seem to care as long as it's above 50-60% but I keep it at about 75%.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I'm changing the top as we speak. I made sure when building my tank that it had different levels and spots for warm and cooler areas. My pair is arriving tomorrow morning![]()
I can't wait to see them!

With my gray tree frogs, I only have about 1/4 of the top as a screen. There wasnt enough air movement with that so I bought a laptop cooling fan and put that on top of the tank. It runs 24/7 and keeps the humidity perfect and good ventilation.
Good luck with your new frogs! You will have to share some pics when you get them![]()

With - Amazon.com: AC to Dual Port USB Wall Charger: Electronics
That is what I am using now. Just to clarify, it is on the outside of the tank over the strip of screen.

Yeah I now have about 1/4 of the top screen with no glass now just screen. I was thinking of using this fan: Amazon.com: Red Sea Max Replacement Cooling Fan Kit: Kitchen & Dining
