So the Grays are 2 months old and around 1 1/4" snout to vent. I've just been feeding FF, but I know they need variety. I've been a little stymied about what size crix to get at this point. Would 1/4 be too large? As much as I watch these guys, it's hard to tell just how big their mouths are (I'm AWFUL at sight measuring). What say you?
About the calcium: the directions say not more than 2x per week, but these are juveniles, and I don't want to poison them or harm them in any way. How often should food be dusted with Ca?
¼ inch crickets shouldn’t be too large; I’d say that would be a perfect size. If you feed your Grays that size of a cricket or smaller though, I would feed your frogs 2 or more crickets a day. As far as powdering goes, juveniles usually need more calcium than adults for their growing bones and development. Instead of giving your Grays 2 vitamin doses weekly, which is what adults require, most experts recommend that you give juveniles a vitamin supplement 3 or more times weekly. Hope this helps !!
Thank you; that was my next questionIf you feed your Grays that size of a cricket or smaller though, I would feed your frogs 2 or more crickets a day.
Welcome! Glad to help
I dust daily with both vitamins and calcium for my baby spring peepers and my toadlets. Going off their size, they could easily eat 1/4 inch crickets. I would let them eat as many as they will in about 15 minutes. They are growing so they should know how much they need. It's the adults you have to worry about obesity with. My adult grays get their crickets dusted every 4 days.

Are 1/4 inch crickets considered pinheads?
No, 1/4 inch crickets are not considered pinheads. Pinhead crickets are really small, about 1/15 inch in size!
darn, beat me to it, lol
Hehehe.....I did lol
Can new froglets handle eating the 1/4 crickets? I have ordered fruit flies, but they don't arrive until tomorrow or Friday and I've spent several days calling around for fruit flies or pinhead crickets with no success. The couple of places that do carry them said that they just threw them out because all were dead.
I've thought about trying to hunt down a few bugs to tide them over, but I'm concerned about the pesticide issue...I was really suprised that Atlanta doesn't have pinheads or fruit flies in the pet stores....not sure what to do at this point. I hope that these little guys can survive until tomorrow.
