Thread: Hurricane Evacuations

    Default Hurricane Evacuations

With hurricane season in full swing I've been trying to figure out the best way to take all the frogs IF we have to evacuate north to a hotel. I think the pacmans will be okay in large critter keepers with dirt and water. The question is how would you handle taking 4 WTF and 1 white lipped for two to four days if you had to evacuate. Taking the big exo terras is out of the question. Hopefully this won't be an issue but it's better to be prepared.

Sorry to hear that. Make believe you have to ship them on a long trip.I would get a plastic container 18x18x12,the tall type. Add some cocofiber, and mist it once in a while.

Take them the same way, but just put damp substrate in there. Don't need a water bowl.

    A tupperware container is fine.

I would get a larger Tupperware container and set it up with some eco-earth on bottom, some leaf litter and a few branches or set a pothos plant in there to give them some place to hide and not sit on the substrate. Then just mist them twice a day and they should be fine.

Thank you all! I have everything set and ready to go just in case and now I can stop stressing about it. Hopefully I'll never have to use them though! I hate stressing my frogs out!

I hope you don't mind if I ask a question in your thread, but it's kind of similar.

Our power goes out during the winter at least 3 times on average, what should I do for the poor frogs?
The house temperature can drop down to the low 60's pretty fast. I usually throw a hand warmer in a sock
and put it in my python's enclosure and he burrows into his substrate near it and makes it through fine,
but I'm not sure what I can do to keep my red eyes stable. Do they make small generators that would run off a big battery?

One item that might be a bit safer than hand warmers for frogs (they can cook a frog with a quickness) is Phase 22 packs and panels. These pack contain a liquid that is designed to keep a closed in area around 71 degrees. I use them for shipping frogs, but I imagine, in a pinch, they could be used to keep temperatures at an acceptable level, at least for a while. Hopefully long enough for the power to come back on.

For more info, do a search for phase 22 packs on some other forums ( i dont wanna plug any specific forums). They are sold here:

hat being said, if you have gas powered stoves, a hot water bottles might suffice if used carefully.
