Burrowing in substrate?!?!

I went to check on my WTFs this morning and couldn't find them. After digging around in the substrate for a few seconds, I found them both. Is there a reason they're doing this?

Im guessing temperature? Honestly, the temp was 70 when I checked this morning, but I have a heat lamp on them. I have been turning it off lately because of the heat we have been getting. Its been getting 80+ degrees in my apartment and I dont want to cook them.

It's either your temp or your humidity. What's the humidity level at?

I agree with Amy here on the humidity. Is your temp gauge inside the tank and if so check to see if its working correctly.

Burrowing for the Whites is usually that they are either trying to coll down or the moisture in the air is not enough and they are drying out.
Also, is there enough places for them to climb and hide?
Mine sleep in the Bromeliads and snake plants since they are usually damp ot wet from misting.

So the 70 degrees is okay then? Or should I up that?

I, honestly, didn't get a good look at my humidity gauge. It was in the green area? 50-60% maybe? What should the humidity be at? Everything I have read thus far has said that they don't need a high humidity. And I've got a giant water dish in there as well.

60 percent is fine but check the gauge against another since they are not reliable.


Temps should be between 68 to 72 at night and 75 - 78 in the day. If your higher than 80 degrees then they just might be looking for a place that is cooler.

In the old tank, the temp. was at 80 in the middle part of the tank. At the bottom of the new one, it's reading 70 degrees. Should I move my thermometer up a bit and see where it's at near the top? Or should it be okay how it is?

Which humidity gauge is the best? I have an Exo-Terra one at the moment, but I'm looking at a combo thermometer/humidity gauge.
