We have 2 firebellies... For a few weeks Princess has been very fat, got fatter each day, just her tummy. I got up today, and she is half full in her tummy, the rest is saggy, and is discolored. Kinda has a white hue/tint to it, even a little tiny red spot like blood. Is she sick? I dont see any eggs. I was assuming she was ready to lay. Now Im reading they can be ill with bloated tummies.. I compared and she DEF looked egg filled. This is from yesterday
any ideas?![]()
Hi Chewy
Your princess does look rather bloated in the belly region.I believe female frogs look generally big allround their body when ready to spawn. If your frog is ready to spawn I would assume some enthusiastic male to be riding shotgun?
Its a pity that the world wide nature of the forum does not attract any specialist comments and advice from the proffesionals, experts or vets. Its not as if a specialist vet would suffer a loss of income by contributing to the forum as the members are world wide and therefore there is no individual financial benefit to be lost.
Regards
Keith
So you think she was just ill and not ready to produce eggs? I wonder what made her better? I mean she isnt better..but she isnt bloated anymore...She is really lazy like, she doesnt keep her head perked...I did notice a rather large poopie...could that be it...it was weird b/c the male wouldnt eat...left it for her..etc..
Any suggestions know what it could have been, or what I should do now?
im new to the fbt soo Im just worried now, I was excited for babies...lol...not that I knew what I would do with them all, but we even built them a huge river tank, then suddenly she was skinnymaybe the old tank was making her ill? it was just a kid tank...now we have a huge one..with hide aways, plants, landings...water all sorts of fun stuff....
Do you feel any hard spots in her belly? What is she eating (or was eating if she stopped) I'd be worried about impaction. Is there anything in the new tank she could have accidentally munched up with some food ?

She was in a plastic tank with no pebbles,, it had a small water section and a plastic land section...no cover. I thought she was going to lay so I scurried out and got a 30 gallon and made a vivarium 1/2 water and 1/2 land tank...She has been getting larger for over a week or so....I introduced her yesterday to the new home and now i check when I wake today and she is skinny...I have no idea. She ate small crickets like crazy, and the male or so I thought male didnt eat really at all...
now she is so frail looking, and he is plump,, so i assumed she laid and he ate them Its the only thing i could come up with..
How do I tell the gender.. I was looking for short toe and long toe?
i would give this a thorough read and note the issues raised regarding the habitat and feed

Thank you so much.. It sounds like this is the casepoor bugger... Do you think since I moved her to the new atmosphere is why it isnt bloaty anymore? I know it isnt well.. The old tank I had to clean my self, the water got really gross and it stank to high heavens.. the new one has a fitler and is clean..
I hope she makes it... I wish i could tell the gender lol.. that is my next task...any tips would be great... interwebs arent helping
Was her food dusted with calcium and vitamins?
