We have hind legs

Hello! Just me again giving you an update.
I am so excited to let you know that most of my ACF tads have hind legs. They are so cute! Here is a few photos to share with you. Thanks for all your help with my tads. I have lost a few more of the smaller ones that just are not growing. But the older ones are doing great. My 5yrld. son Thomas watches them all the time. He loves them. Right before they started getting their hind legs, I moved them into my 55 gal. tank. All is going really good.

Congratulations! LisaAnn. You really did a good job on what is not an easy species to raise from eggs. I am very impressed.

I'm always amazed at how much these guys look like fish when tadpoles, much more so than almost any other type of frog.

Thank you! They are keeping me busy. I now have 5 that have both front and back legs. I can't waite until they all are finally frogs.

Best of luck with your tads - i love xenopus and am looking to get a group again myself. They really are very strange looking tads when they develop. They are almost like a catfish and then undergo this alien transformation lol The adults have such characters although sometimes freaked me out when they watched you through the glass lol

I hope that all of them that is left will do fine. There are still about 5-6 of them that just are not growing. Just waiting to see what happens.

I now have taken the 5 that have both hind and front legs out of my 55gal. and put them alone into an 10gal. tank. They are doing really great. I still feed them the water food solution once a day. Also, they are comming up for air. Is that normal since they still have their tails? Anyway, I will post some more photos and videos soon. ttyl

As they begin developing their front legs, you will notice them developing a slimmer body - more frog shaped. They are fully developing lungs at this point and are absorbing their gills. They are mixing breathing methods through this stage.

Once they start absorbing their tails, stop feeding. They will be getting all the nutrients they need from the tail they are absorbing.

As for some "falling behind" so to speak. It happens. It is normal for only 70-60% of tadpoles to make it from egg to froglet. Natures way - that is most likely why they have so many eggs to begin with. Be patient with the stragglers, they may end up morphing fine, if a little late, or they may pass before fully morphing/ morph into a runt.
