Hi all,
New around here. Always been a reptile and amphibian enthusiast but gravitated more toward snakes. Now getting into tree frogs. Specifically Barking and Gray tree frogs. I've had Grays before with success many years ago. Was able to house them with Greens no problem. However, I am considering getting into Grays again and a new interest, Barking TFs.
I've heard both sides. They can and they can't be housed together. I was thinking 2 of each all juvies preferably.
However, I want to be absolutely certain that the Barking tree frogs won't eat the Grays. Has anyone had any success with these mixes and if so, how? What did you do to keep them disinterested in each other?
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
R
You shouldnt be mixing any species of tree frogs. They all have different types of toxins, and in a small environment, they will really effect each other. You may not notice a problem, but after months and years, their systems get more and more stressed out from being exposed so heavily to the wrong toxins. I definitely wouldn't recommend it. I have gray tree frogs and spring peepers, but they have their own tanks and always will. They would have a much healthier, longer life if kept with their own species. I would get both though if I were you, just keep them in their own habitats! Good luck!
2.0.3 Hyla versicolor "Eastern Gray Tree Frogs"
2.2.0 Agalychnis callidryas "Red Eyed Tree Frogs"
0.0.3 Dendrobates auratus "Turquoise and Bronze"
0.0.1 Anaxyrus fowleri "Fowler's Toad"
A female Barking Tree Frog could easily swallow a male Gray Tree Frog. For that reason I would be very cautious about mixing them.
