Accidental Cricket culturing.

Well when I had Grif in the Zoo Med 12x12x18 terrarium one of the female crickets must have thought the conditions were just right and apparently laid her eggs in the coco fiber substrate. After I moved Grif back into his 10 gallon I saw several tiny crickets within the tank so I placed a small plastic plate in there with some cricket food and cricket quencher and am now going to raise them to adulthood. They've been in there for two weeks or more. They seem to be doing fine. I mist the substrate alil every other day so there is some moisture in there. Its kind of neat how they just appeared. I would figure that the eggs would have to winter over before hatching. Who knew?

It would be nice if the cricket that chirps nonstop in my tank would lay some eggs LOL

Crickets aren't huge fans of water, so you'd probably be ok not misting.

Ok ill let it dry out. I also get a loud male cricket when I buy them usually. I always tried to feed them to Grif first Lol!

lol, I always end up with baby crickets in my tank. It usually takes about three or four weeks for them to start appearing, which is about how often I change out Trevor's substrate, so they never get big enough to much on him.

This just happened to me too. I decided to clean his tank and I kept finding little eggs and then several very tiny crickets started appearing. I considered raising them but I need one of those big storage bins first. How long will it take them to get big?
