Spadefoot toads are difficult captives. They are also lousy "display" pets. They spend most of their time underground in aestivation, surfacing to feed and breed only during heavy rains (and in some species a few hours after). They are also 100% nocturnal. In captivity, it is very difficult to keep them fed and provide a deep enough substrate to keep them healthy, without running into significant drainage issues. Many also carry subdermal parasites that quickly overwhelm the animals in captivity.
Additionally, in many areas they are protected and either banned from captive keeping, or a permit is required.
Watching FrogTV because it is better when someone else has to maintain the enclosure!
