    Default Sad day

One of my axolotls passed today - They were being fed frozen bloodworms and I think it took too large of a bite and choked.

They were eating, I left the room to put away the turkey baster and wash my hands, came back about 5 min later and my male leucistic axolotl was belly up on the floor of the tank shaking. He was dead a minute later.

Just one of those freak situations sadly.

I may eventually get another to house with my female axolotl but for now I am just going to concentrate her.

Thanks guys - Jellybean had the sweetest little face and he loved chasing fingers up and down the sides of his tank. He will be missed. Our female Reese seems healthy and we are going to redo our 29 gallon bowfront for her.

Sorry to hear about that. For what it's worth, it didn't choke. That's not really possible for a gilled animal that gets the vast majority of its gaseous exchange through its skin and gills.

I had thought so also, but could not figure out what else could have happened - his mouth was still chuck full of worms when I found him - could he have had a stroke/seizure?
