I don't feed any of my frogs or toads adult crickets. I buy anywhere from 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch. That way everyone gets something they like (Leggy only eats the tiny ones while Paddy only eats the bigger ones etc)
Well...apparently one of them has eluded my gray tree frogs long enough to grow into an adult. I am hearing nonstop chirping from their tank (from the cricket, not the frogs) and it is driving me INSANE!!! I keep hoping it either dies soon or Paddy nabs it because it is super irritating!
And one other thing...why is it the crickets tend to die a week or two after I buy them, but the ones that escape can live forever and get me in trouble all the time? And how come my cats are too stupid to catch them before someone else sees them LOL

Crickets are evil. I hate them and I hate having to feed things that require crickets, so I stopped keeping anything that can't get by without them. Good luck finding that elusive cricket though.

I found a local b. dubia breeder/seller, I might see if my frogs will eat those...I think my parents would freak more finding an escaped ROACH though.

I have an adult cricket somewhere in my viv, too. I'm just waiting that dang thing out and hoping it dies soon. I have looked and looked for it, and I can only tell the general area it's in. Somewhere by the water dish. No matter how hard I look, I can't find it. Stupid cricket.
I'm with John, crickets are evil.
Mine is somewhere behind the raised lagoon, an area I made tight enough so no frogs could get to! But you'd think it would be coming out to munch on vegetation or something. 4 gray tree frogs dont generally let a cricket slip by!

I have fed young Blaptica dubia cockroaches to gray tree frogs. They need to be small though.

The person sells all different sizes of dubias. I don't think I can get them small enough for the peepers even when they are adult sizes though. I think those little guys will be on fruit flies forever.

Amy, they should freak less with a dubia... At least they don't run around, speedy as lightning, and lay eggs in your plant's pot everwhere...![]()
They lay eggs in the plants?????? Luckily all of ours are outside right now LOL

The crickets can, yes. Not saying they will, just that they can![]()
It's probably a good thing that I'm a terrible plant owner and don't water them enough then...too dry for crickets to lay eggs!

I don't think I'd mind if the cricket in my viv chose to lay eggs in there, I guess. Free food for the frogs, right? At least it would be giving me something in exchange for the annoyance.
I guess that's a sign that I probably wouldn't like raising my own crickets. LOL!
(Sitting here listening to the dang cricket chirping as I type this.)
