That's a good sign. Not eating at all is really the big signal that something is way wrong. I hope it keeps eating for you and is just a late bloomer as the growth goes.

I hope so too, I wonder if the big ones were just too intimidating for her, they would climb over her to get to the fruit flies! She would just end up in a corner.

That's initially what I thought about the toadlet I lost too, that it just was too timid. It would just sit in a corner while the other two toadlets mowed down all the flies. However, after the other toads were full, I put them back into their tank, and gave the smaller toad more food, and left it alone in the feeding container for over an hour, and it still didn't eat, so there was something else going on.

I have to laugh a little when I see my toads stepping on each other's faces. Sometimes I think they are mildly social, because I see them hanging out in close proximity, and then the next minute they're just like *TROMP* right on each other. There goes my theory.

It is funny how they will just climb all over each other! It's OOOOOO FOOOD! and off they go no matter who happens to be in their way!

Have yours eaten flies off of each other's back yet? I see that on occasion, too funny. It usually happens when one toad is full, and the other is still prowling around slurping up anything that moves.

No, I have not seen that one yet! They are usually all eating until all the flies are gone though, so maybe that will happen eventually!

Ok... I'm in suspense!!! How's the toadlet? I'm hoping to hear that it's made a complete recovery and caught up to it's siblings...

Amy, Happy to hear the eatin' and poopin' is going well. I also raised toadlets and the worries and stress can be heavy at times but know that you are doing a great job.

My toad went from "toadlet" to "piglet", from not eating to non stop eating, it's doing very well, growing a lot! Hope your toadlet does the same "transformation" for you!

P.S. I't raining, and I'm listening to a spring peeper chirping out my window, sooo cool!

I'm sorry, I should have updated!! The smallest toadlet (Bob Marley) is still the smallest, but quite fat and still with us! I actually moved Bob back into the tank with the big toads as a trial, and Bob is still eating good. They are all taking small crickets now as well as worm pieces. It's nice to be able to cut back a bit on the amount of fruit flies I was feeding! Especially considering how much the spring peepers are eating now that they've grown.

Bob Marley has passed. Not sure what happened, he/she had never caught up with the others, but grew and was eating. There were no signs of impaction or other illnesses. The kids and I are all kind of sad although not totally surprised.

Thanks Don...I guess naming it Bob Marley was bad luck! Like I said, the toad hasn't done well since we found it (obviously) but it seemed to be getting better. The rest are huge and growing more every day, so hopefully they stay healthy.

Sorry to hear that. I know it sucks to nurse something along and see it die despite your best efforts. Glad the rest are doing well!

Too bad, but sounds like it was falling behind the curve for a while. Perhaps there was some fundamental problem with him that did him in in the end. Bob Marley was tragically taken from us too soon, as a human, and now as a toad.

Amy I'm so sorry about your loss.. It's not your fault. Nature made it that way so the others will be strong and make it. That's part of life. ..In the wild I don't think he would of made it either ...The week die so the strong survive..

I am very sorry to hear that too. In every group, there is at least one or two that fail to thrive or just die for no apparent reason. Usually this is ascribed to genetic factors or nutritional issues during the tadpole phase. Doesn't make the loss any easier, though! Every so often, though, there are runts who do make it and that's why we keep on trying with these little guys... Keep up the good work - I (for one) think you are doing a great job with your toads!
