One of my toads has been chilling out in the water dish for about 2 days straight. When I take it out for feeding and put it back in the tank, it goes right back into the water. I've explained to it that it's not a frog, but that seemed to have little impact. Other than looking a bit bloated/fat, it seems to be healthy and has a good appetite. Are there any downsides to this behavior? It just seems weird to me that they act so differently. The other toad will soak for maybe an hour and then go back to cover.
I don't think that would be a problem. I know a tree frog is not the same, but out of my 4, I have one who hardly leaves the fountain. She's staked it out as her territory and is always in it. She is always fat and waterlogged too LOL

Our toad at work likes to spend a couple of days a week in his water dish, the other 5 or so he almost completely ignores it.
Good to hear. I know when I stay in the pool too long I get the dreaded "prune fingers" but I guess toads don't have that issue.
I think it sounds pretty normal ... again not a true toad, but one of my Firebellies pretty much refuses point blank to move out of the water, where as another sites on the same dry old rock all day ... i think they just pic their places amongst their homes and stik with them.
My guys spend a lot of time soaking, especially with my AC struggling to keep the house under 80 degrees (I live in Oklahoma). Plus they live next to a heated horned frog cage so they are warmer than that. I find that toads are very individual - some like to soak a lot, others not so much.
