Default Sad Situation for African Dwarf Frogs

While on vacation, I was at one of those touristy gift shops. They used to have the big hermit crab set ups that people could create their own hermit crab land and take one home.

They replaced that with little tiny 4x4inch boxes, with colorful gravel, a bamboo stick, and TWO African Dwarf Frogs. They weren't even selling the food for them! I asked at the desk how they feed them, and the woman there told me that they usually sell fast enough that they don't need to feed them I told her that the little boxes they were in were far too small for them and all I got was an "Okay" Obviously they don't care

To make matters worse, I saw them again at a different shop down the street. I wanted to buy one just to save the poor guys and give them a proper home, but I wouldn't let myself throw my support in to this new "gift shop" idea.

Those are horrible. The company I work for was selling those kits as well. I was so upset about that, and wrote a few emails to the higher-ups.

I wish I had that opportunity, the stores aren't part of a chain though and I'm pretty sure it was the owner I talked to

Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. There are many people who keep aquatic frogs and would love to answer any questions you may have.

Let's put these gift shop people into a tiny tank and see how they like it. These stories...

wow i googled it and thats just wrong its way to small to have two adfs in. i wouldnt even keep a betta in something that small. and the people who sell them shouldn't be put in a small space their forced to sell it. the people who made that happen should be fined something that would take years to pay off.

I've actually seen those for sale in Hallmark stores recently. The care card that comes with them states that they need fed a few pellets a couple of times a week and that the water only needs changed every few months as the gravel "filters" the water. I used to have 8 ADF's in a large filtered fish tank. My frogs would only eat live blackworms or frozen bloodworms (thawed of course). They refused to eat anything other than worms. I also did partial water changes once a week. They were spoiled frogs and constantly laid eggs. I always had tadpoles to care for and little froglets.

I have heard that Hallmark has them too!! We had an african dwarf frog a few years ago, it ate tadpole bites without a problem, but I can see the issue if that doesnt work!
