Sulfur in tap water...

Hello all!

I just bought a new home (super yay!), but it has a problem...I have sulfur in my water, enough that I won't drink it. My furry friends have no problem with it, but I have yet to use it with my phibs. Second problem, after watching the documentary call "tapped" about bottle water, I refuse to purchase any bottled water. For my family I have been taking containers to work and filling it there, which I still think tastes gross, but better then what I have on tap.

So the question...

Will sulfur in the water (after allowing it to sit and the chlorine to dissipate/treating it with stuff) harm my frogs?

Anyone know the answer???

I have had a horrible time with my internet in the new home too, so...I MISS all of you at FROG FORUM!!!! That place where everybody knows what makes my heart skip a beat...my froggies! I also, fyi, lived without said froggies for 2 weeks while I moved. My lovely parents misted at the old house and I timed moving trips around their feeding schedules! Yes, I am a dork! lol (sorry I am all over the place in this post...maybe just a tad too much coffee... )

I never thought about sulfur content but others have to have the same issue in other parts of the country.

From what I can find so far, you need to filter the water to remove sulfur. If you on a well system, the cure is to shock the well with chlorine. I believe there are also filter system that can be added to the line before entering the house that uses salt to soften the water. Then charcoal filters to filter off the remaining sulfur.

I wonder that a Brita would remove for you.

I haven't lived here long enough to do all of my research on filters. I would like to purchase one that fits under the sink in the kitchen, but I hear they are pricey. Believe it or not, I live in a town and the entire town's water source (rural water) is sulfury. It has been a real adjustment. I don't smell it as bad as I did the first week that we lived in the house. My work is less then 2 miles from, here but it is in another water district that does not have sulfur. I have been using the water I had from the old house for all things frog.

Here is one that isn't to pricey and mounts under sink and runs its own dedicated facet. They also have others and this showed the filter lasting about 750 gallons of use.
