I got a 55 gallon for free. The bottom glass was cracked but it is on a wooden frame. i am putting my kids hermit crabs in it. I also got a 64 gallon show tank that is both long and tall for $10 for our whites tree frog. Craigslist is awesome.
If I had a 55 gallon that held water I would get a few fire belly toads. i so want one. The look awesome plus i would love building thier habitat. My husband already wants to kill me for the others I am still tweeking them and adding stuff. He would loose it if I could get those frogs.
I haven't been able to score Any larger tanks for cheap on cl. I am getting 2x 29s, 1x 20, and 2x 10s for $45 tomorrow. Pretty good deal. That means ill have 3x 29s, 1x 20h, 1x 20l, 2x 10s, and 1x 36 bowfront to play with....along with my 18x18x24 zoomed.

I'm gonna have to go with the others and say "FROGS".
Personally since you already have a pacman and a tree frog I think its time to take a venture and try some darts. I think a group of Leucs would be perfect for that tank. In fact Katie is setting up a similar size tank for Leucs as well. Do some research, darts are fabulous pets. They are awake during the daytime and they are very active. They are not as hard to keep as their reputation. In fact, you will find they are probably easier....don't tell anyone I said that it's supposed to be a secret.![]()
The only real problem with darts is keeping a steady supply of isopods, springtails, and fruitflies. You have to have several cultures going at the same time to keep them satisfied.

????Huhh... No offense to the Leucs but all you really need is Fruit Flies. But all frogs have to eat. Have two cultures going so you can rotate back and forth. They make themselves....they are practically free. Name one person who deals with fruit flies and crickets that thinks crickets are easier? I don't think you're going to find anybody. I wish all my frogs ate fruit flies....life would be soooo easy. No more smelly crickets or having to rush to Petsmart at 8:55pm right before they close to pick some up. Fruit flies are plentiful and reproduce so easily. As far as Isopods and springtails go they just help to keep your tank clean. Yes they can be a supplemental food source that is beneficial to your frogs but it is not a MUST. No offense, but dart frogs are the easiest frogs to keep. It's only the dart frog elitists that seem to make them sound like they are so difficult. My opinion is, its just a big conspiracy theory.

Well when your running a frog room with with 100s of darts. You need more than just 2 cultures going. Sure if you have one or two darts that easy but when you have tons like most dart enthusiast I know they can grow through 20+ cultures a week....now that's a lot of ff. IMO giving just ff is Not how I would go about it. Its like saying here you are too eat porkchops for the rest of your life with No variety. That would suck. I'm not trying To be rude but feeding just one type of food item is stupid. It doesn't give any variety and sometimes your animals can go off food for this reason. Not trying to sound like an a$$. But I don't feel one food item alone is healthy. I do agree on the crickets though. But most people have moved on to dubia and hisser Roach nmyphs which have No smell breed like wildfire and are 100x more nutricious than crickets.

Pardon me I didn't realize he was putting hundreds of darts into his 55 gallon. In that case you're right Wiley is going to need "several cultures going at the same time to keep them satisfied".
Scored a 170 gallon Vertical Reptile Terrarium for 50 bucks on Craigslist. My husband is having to do some updates to make it more "frog friendly," but Craigslist ROCKS! Mommyof4- your husband and mine should form a support group . . . Husbands of Frog-lovers Annonymous!
Yeah I think they should. My husband gives me dirty looks for being on here half the time, and the rest for spending to much money.
Same here!! We buy them for our offspring and end up getting hooked ourselves. . . and doing all the work! Worth it though . . . they're addicting! I just keep reminding my husband that they're cheaper than my dogs!
True no yearly shot or registration just changing stuff here and there and 5 to 10 dollars worth of food for 2 weeks unlike dogs that eat you out of house and home depending on the size.
Try breeding the crickets if you have the space and time to do it! Then you won't even have that weekly expense. It costs a bit to get started but it really pays off in the long run and is SO easy! We started out about 3 weeks ago and already have 2 hatches and more crickets than we know what to do with! (My older daughter has firebellies in her apartment, so we are supplying her too now.) It also allows me to choose what size to feed. I hate depending upon the pet store. Ours has given me a wide variety of sizes when I ask for 'small.' Plus I hate using the adults which can chirp in my daughters bedroom Vivarium- she was up all night once due to the chirping of the uneaten ones! There is a great Care Sheet on this subject on this Forum and other websites also (Good to get ideas from many). We don't even use a heater in our incubater container and they are hatching just from the summer weather. (We keep the incubater on a screened porch but keep the older ones inside as they grow faster the hotter they are. Keeping them cool increases longevity. Just a suggestion, but if you decide to try it, PM me if you need more 'personal experience' info than is in the Care Sheet!
I have thought about that. I just dont have room yet.
