Scored a 170 gallon Vertical Reptile Terrarium for 50 bucks on Craigslist. My husband is having to do some updates to make it more "frog friendly," but Craigslist ROCKS! Mommyof4- your husband and mine should form a support group . . . Husbands of Frog-lovers Annonymous!

Yeah I think they should. My husband gives me dirty looks for being on here half the time, and the rest for spending to much money.

Same here!! We buy them for our offspring and end up getting hooked ourselves. . . and doing all the work! Worth it though . . . they're addicting! I just keep reminding my husband that they're cheaper than my dogs!

True no yearly shot or registration just changing stuff here and there and 5 to 10 dollars worth of food for 2 weeks unlike dogs that eat you out of house and home depending on the size.

Try breeding the crickets if you have the space and time to do it! Then you won't even have that weekly expense. It costs a bit to get started but it really pays off in the long run and is SO easy! We started out about 3 weeks ago and already have 2 hatches and more crickets than we know what to do with! (My older daughter has firebellies in her apartment, so we are supplying her too now.) It also allows me to choose what size to feed. I hate depending upon the pet store. Ours has given me a wide variety of sizes when I ask for 'small.' Plus I hate using the adults which can chirp in my daughters bedroom Vivarium- she was up all night once due to the chirping of the uneaten ones! There is a great Care Sheet on this subject on this Forum and other websites also (Good to get ideas from many). We don't even use a heater in our incubater container and they are hatching just from the summer weather. (We keep the incubater on a screened porch but keep the older ones inside as they grow faster the hotter they are. Keeping them cool increases longevity. Just a suggestion, but if you decide to try it, PM me if you need more 'personal experience' info than is in the Care Sheet!

Really the only reason I don't breed my own crickets besides the smell and upkeep is the fact that the adults make constant cricket noise. Heaven forbid if one escapes. Nothing like tearing apart your room at 2 o'clock in the morning trying to find the chirping cricket. Almost got all of my frogs booted out of the house because of that one.
