Long story short, I didn't realize the small hole I cut in the wire terrarium for wiring was large enough for a frog to escape.
Found my female adult red eye covered in dust on the floor in front of my glass door this morning, looking rather shriveled.
She was still alive, so I put her in some shallow water and hoped for the best. She seemed to be alright after ten minutes or so, so I went back to bed for a few hours.
Upon waking up, she was out of the water and climbing around on some branches, looking for a place to sleep, I assume. She was rather restless for an hour or so, so I decided to mix gatorade with some water and gently spritz it on her to see if it helped. She seemed to appreciate it, and about a half hour later I found her in her sleeping position on a large inverted log with my other two males.
She seems to have been cut up a bit by the mesh upon her escape, though I didn't notice anything that looked too severe. Would it be safe to swab a bit of neosporin on her? Is there anything else I should do?
Scratches shouldn't post much danger to her. I personally wouldn't medicate unless there were distinctly nasty open wounds. It sounds to me like she'll be fine. You're lucky you found her so soon.

She seems fine. She settled down on a covered branch under the light and I've been doing a short gatorade/water mist every few hours. Sun's almost down, I'll watch and see if she gets active tonight.
i'm glad you found her. My tiniest PCF, only 1.5cm, escaped and was happally hopping along behind my tanks...I freaked. You've never seen anyone move a 10gal tank faster. He's safe and back in his tank now, but he was covered in dust. He was a chore to catch, i was so scared I'd hurt him.
I've never heard of a Gatorade/water mix for spraying. Where'd you get that idea? Does it really help them recover?
Well I read in the "Frog First Aid" that a pedialyte/water bath can help dehydration, which I figured came from the electrolytes, and gatorade is super similar. It's all I had and I really wanted to give her an extra boost. From what I observed, it really helped! I can't say as good as pedialyte until I use that too, but she looks sooooo much better now!
**update.
Well, it's been two days and she spent them entirely inside a leaf-cover vertical log in the terrarium.
I came down to see them this morning and she was sitting on the edge of the little pond.
As of now she has moved to a branch but hasn't gone to sleep for the day.
The scratches on her sides look much better, almost gone. The rather bad one on her head is looking at least better, though it still looks awful and it makes me feel so guilty about not checking the hole more carefully. It looks like near her left eye was scratched but the eye itself is fine, she can open it but prefers to keep it closed mostly.
I'm so glad to see her moving! I was checking on her every few hours to mist her and I was worried she wouldn't make it out.
Your'e both so lucky .Oh boy i love happy endings![]()
