My Whites Tree Frogs change colors, sometimes they are brown and other times green. Does anyone know what might be the cause of this? I'm using a dark colored substrate and am wondering if that might have something to do with it. When I moved them into a separate container tonight to clean their viv. they were brown and after being in the clear container for a few minutes they turned green. I have included some photos for comparison. Thanks for any comments.
Hi Robin,

Mine is the exact same way. He is usually brown during the daytime but turns green a few hours after it gets dark. I've also noticed that mine will turn green when I remove him to clean the tank. I think it's normal.
They change colors all the time. Mine has been brown for the most part but he needs more plants in his larger tank. We are working on it. Plus I think he is bored in such a large tank without a friend but that will be fixed soon.
it is normal.. mine will be green during the day and when lights go out he will be brown-redish colored
Like other animals, frogs can open and close various light reflecting, pigment containing cells within the epidermis called chromatophores and they do this based on the reflectivity of their surroundings, mood, and stress. : ]
Yeah my frogs change colors all the time. I have seen my blue phase White's go from a sea-foam green, to a turquoise, to a dark purple-brown color all in one day! It's completely natural.

I don't have a white's, but i do have red eyes, and they change colors all the time! I think it's cool though.
