Default Newbie needs help with froglet

we found some tadpoles in a puddle in our front yard here in Greenville SC. USA. We put most in the pond behind our house and kept several to raise. The result is one surviving froglet. He just climbed out of the water 1 week ago. We bought some flightless friutflies. There are 6 in his 4"X6" enclosure but he won't have anything to do with them. I'm afraid he is going to starve. Any suggestions?
    Scott

    Hi there

For the most part with new froglets I like to surround them with food! It sounds like the enclosure you have is a bit small to put the whole fruit fly culture in but I would advise trying to put in a lot more!

Whenever I've raised tadpoles. They didn't really start to eat until a few days after they fully absorbed their tails. If there is food around he'll definitely eat when he's hungry.

Exactly. I recently adopted a frog just as he was coming out of the water. Initially he didnt touch them, but after a few days he'd go crazy for 'em. I suggest putting a little bit of apple in there, as it provides a surface for the fliest congregate on, making it easier for you and the frog

Good luck, enjoy your little beauty!

He is still energetic, but as yet I haven't seen him eat any flies. I have about 2 dozen in there now. Hopefully over the next few days he will make a dent in the number and I will be able to see a difference. No poop that I can see yet either. But still hopeful.

Victory!!! This morning I was observing my frog at breakfast. A fruitfly decided to stand in front of Puddles' mouth. And just like that Puddles gulped him down. It is a relief to finally know that he is eating.

Ah the joy of seeing your young froggy eat for the first time. Glad to hear it's eating.

Hyla sp. Depending on your location, maybe Pseudacris crucifer? Hard to tell at this age.

Doesn't look like Pseudacris crucifer to me. (Though it is hard to tell when you can't see the back) It IS pretty small though... hm....

Hyla is the genus we think the frog belongs to. The "sp" is short for species and we use it because we are not sure of the species, though we are pretty sure it is of the genus Hyla.
