Community tank

Hi

I have 4 gray tree frogs an I was thinking about starting a community tank. Does any one have any ideas for plants and fish that could coexist well with each other and the gray tree frogs.

#1 Rule NEVER MIX BREEDS (most Frogs have toxins that are harmful to other species and if not the same size they will try and eat eachother)

Also make sure your tank is large enough for 4 frogs ... rule to try and go by is 1 Frog per 10 Gallons.

I have a 18x18x24 exo terra that im allowed up to 4 greys due to them being a smaller frog species.

Also I hear pothos is one of the best and least likely to die terrarium plants =)
I currently only have plastic plants, some vines, hiding log, and I magnetic rock perch up high and a water dish for bathing.

I have a 20 gallon tank with half land half water
In that tank i have 1 chinese warty newt, 2 firebelly toads, and about 7 guppies
They have all been happily living together for a while now
I think that mixing species is fine as long as you do your research and have enough space for all the animals

As for fish if you have a large enough water section guppies should be fine

Is a guppie like the crowntail fish they sell at most pet stores?

Is there a risk of drowning with tree frogs if you make a pool deep enough for the fish? I would not recommend putting the fish in there. Also, my gray tree frogs are quite aggressive eaters, I can imagine one taking a snap at the fish and then struggling to get back out of the water. What size tank do you have? I have 4 gray tree frogs in a 35 gallon tank, and there wouldn't be enough space in there, in my opinion, to give the guppies the water they need and space for the gray tree frogs.

Well guppies are a small type of fish that only grow up to about 1 inch
They breed very easy and are very cheap

As for finding them go to the nearest petstore and ask for guppies
They should have them, every petstore i have gone to has had guppies

If you have a water section you should always have a rock or stick allowing access out of the water
Also you should NEVER have a section where the treefrog can get stuck underwater and drown

As long as you have access out of the water the tree frogs should be fine

It would be fine if your treefrog ate a guppy

The guppy does look similar to those clowntail fish but do not have such large tails and fins
Kinda like a simpler version

I have to agree there... Ive read about tree frogs drowning easily in deep water I wouldnt wanna chance it. I keep my water dishes below there heads and those that I have seen deeper have plently of sticks and rock ramps and are still only a couple inches deep.

Well it all depends on the size of your tank

Thanks. I found some guppies online at petco i will think about purchasing. Lilypad i am currently trying to buy a new tank around 55 gallons. I was wondering if any one new if a salamander, green anole, newt, or a bearded dragon would work with the frogs and guppies.

It doesnt matter the size of tank a tree frog can still drown if in water over its head and no way to easily climb out they can drown in lil dishes if to deep.

If it is big enough to get the frog in its mouth its not a good choice. You also have to make sure they need the same temperature and humidity levels as the frogs. and you will need to research if they release toxins harmful to other species... I know Greys do.

No, gray tree frogs have their own toxins that would slowly stress and kill another species over time. Plus, they all live in a different type of environment (temp, humidity, space) that is pretty much impossible to mimic in one tank. Some people might disagree with this, but if you do enough research, you'll see that it isn't healthy on any them and their quality of life suffers to make a tank "look cool"

55 gallons would be big enough to make a decent pond, just remember not to make it too deep and risk your tree frogs.

Well i meant that the size of the tank to see if you could even allow for a water section
And i would suggest that the water section only be about 3-4 inches deep
Although im not sure since grays are so small

Im only personnaly familiar with Greys.

But I have read many of the other posts and seen terrarium set ups.

I also wanted to mix breeds originally but after reading and researching and hearing what people had said and some of there hrror stories I wasnt gonna chance killing Frodo.

I am planing to have the water no more than 4 inches deep maybe less.

Ya i never personally kept grays and after doing a little research i dont think it would be such a good idea to keep treefrogs in a community tank
