Assuming you did not have that pet elephant on your shoulders there is no way that a 3/4 inch thick board should of failed that way unless it was defective. What type of board was it. The smooth MDF type board or the fiber board made from wood chips?

On my rack I used much thinner boards for support. Tho mainly it was to allow the tanks to slide on a smooth surface rather then the wire shelves them self.

The problem I've run into is that the shelves are made of particle board (3/4"). I was standing on one while I was building it and nearly put my foot through it. *sigh*

Any suggestions?
I will post pics after work tonight
