My daughter really dropped the ball with her Reverse Okeetee Cornsnake this month.
Turns out she broke her Basking lamp and did not bother to tell anyone. She also did not maintain the enclosure humidity.
The poor critter has retained a complete shed. He will not, of course, eat.
I have since replaced the unreliable metal halide lamp with a combination of a UV fluorescent and an infrared heater. I have raised the enclosure humidity to 70%, but still no luck.
I have now resorted to warm water soaking. Is this the proper treatment or is this only suitable for tropical snakes?

Soaking in the best course of action in this situation. Make sure the eye cap do come off.
Yeah, the eye caps are most important because you'll end up building layers and it's like super glue.

Actually if you're desperate and you want to remove the caps, you can use adhesive tape (sticky tape). Get a strip, put it on the eye of the snake (assuming there is some skin-clear area all around the eye) and use the tape to gently free the skin on the eye.

Check the shed skin for eye caps first!
Roger that! Will do. I am going to wait a few days before I get that desperate. The snake is not listless and shows interest in food. After some research, I went ahead and raised the enclosure to 100% humidity @85ºF. I will wait until the weekend before I get truly nervous.

It happens. I have seen it a few times and its not very common. It some times can be pulled off with a piece of tape.
He doesn't need UV, and I would switch him to belly heat. As for the stuck shed, get an appropriate sized bin and put an old wash cloth in the bottom, fill it with water and put the snake inside. Make sure there are holes in the container, and that there's only enough water to cover the wash cloth. Good luck!
