    Talking Live plants??

Hi! I was just wondering what types of live plants can(and will be enjoyed) by White's tree frogs?? Any suggestions? I just upgraded them to a 35 gallon hex and it looks 'naked' without any plants-___- Thanks a bunch

I have 2 ficus plants in my 35 gallon hex, they are VERY much loved by all 4 of my frogs. I also have some viney stuff and lots of moss...I don't know the names of all of my plants! Sorry! What I actually did, I went to the tropical section of the garden store here, and bought a few things that I thought would look nice.

    Also...

When I got my plants, I rinsed them really well, rinsed the roots free of any dirt that might contain fertilizers, and planted them back in their pots with some eco earth. Then I set them outside for a few days and rinsed the plant again before putting them in my vivarium.

I definitely agree with Amy, before you put any lived plants in your tank remove them from the pots and wash them thoroughly to clean off anything hazardous that could be sticking to the leaves or roots.

For my White's I have a Bromeliad (most people will recommend these as they are large ands have thick, strong leaves that will hold up the substantial weight of a White's), snake plant (this is great for any type of frog, but good for a White's because again it has thick, strong leaves. I have one of these in both of my long-term vivs and will be adding one or two to my huge build.), zebra plant, pothos with thick leaves...anything that you think can hold up your frogs and be comfortable for them to sit on will work.

I have pictures of all the plants I'm going to use in my 131 Gallon in my photo album if you want to take a look.

    Hope this helped!

I havent had much luck finding broms locally, the few that I've found at our local garden shop, the employees were unwilling to separate so I could use the babies. The large ones are way too big for the way my tank is built.

I just picked up some little bromeliads at Home Depot for 4$ a piece. They weren't as pretty as the big ones, but they're small, and hopefully will look a little better with some care.

Pothos is the go-to plant for vivariums, I think. Get a cutting from someone, or buy a small one at the store. It's easy to root. (It's another one of the plants I picked up today, yay for shopping!)

There's a guy named Mark Hertz who sells bromeliads (mostly neoregelias) on Ebay, under the username kilopun, at pretty good prices. You can give him your size parameters and see what he has available.

Although I haven't bought a brom from Home Depot I have bought all the other plants I've used in my tanks there with no problems, and they're quite cheap too.
