Lid for this size aquarium

I am suppose to pick it up tomorrow then I can give better measurements. Frogger is a Whites tree frog. We are going to get him a friend later but for now it will be just him. I am trying to figure out how I want to set it up too. He should only be in this tank for 6-8 months depending on how long it takes us to get all the supplies together for his huge home that is going to be way bigger, but we may move in this time also so I dont know. I want a screen lid I think. It is the one we have with our exo terra vivarium that is 18 gallons.

You can actually pick up the materials for making a alumunim window screen and build this inexpensively.

One piece of frame is about 4 dollars.
One roll of screen materials is about 5 - 6 dollars and is way more than needed.
One 4 pack of the frame corners is about 2 dollars
One package of the trim to hold the screen in is 2 dollars
and the tool for pushing in the rubber trim is about 2 to 3 dollars.

You may even get a smaller hardware store to make you one for a nice price too. I think glass and window stores do this also. Just give them the exact measurement it needs to fit into snugly and then add a small handle to be able to lift it.

If your top is deep enough, you could do two separate ones to fit the top so you can remove only one leaving less chance of frog escape.

Thanks. My husband is very handy. With this info I am sure he can make it fairly cheap. Now I just have to figure out how I want to do the inside.

Another consideration is your cat (I checked your profile). Make sure your lid can handle the cat sitting on it if it has access to the room with the frog.

Another option for a lid is "eggcrate", the stuff they use in ceiling light fixtures, Plaskolite | Egg Crate White Louver - 23.75 Inch x 47.75 Inch | Home Depot Canada You might still want to line it with the screen mesh Don mentioned (no need for a frame for the screen if you go this route) to keep cat hair out and insects in. This is more cat resistant than the screen alone. With the window screen on the inside of the tank and the eggcrate on top, the cat also can't scratch at the screen (if it likes to do that sort of thing)

Callie definetly trys to get to the frog. We keep small things on top to keep her from sitting on it. But with a bigger tank thats not really good. I will have to figure that one out. Thanks for the idea's. I will have to look into that also. She likes anything that moves.

I picked up a sheet today of egg crate and it was 12 bucks.

I picked up the tank tonight I will use your advice to make the lid. Thanks so much it is a long thin rectangle tank that is tall so it is perfect for tree frogs. I will get measurements and pictures when I can. Right now I am putting cranky kids to bed. And the crack is only a slight leak in the corner.

front to back is 1ft side to side is 4 ft. I cant wait to clean it out and set it up! Even if I am going to be adding stuff every couple of weeks for awhile.
