I let him go, just wanted to take some quick pics first!! It was raining out, I was surprised to see him hopping around.

nice Amarican toad
Which toad species is that? It's hard to tell because it's so dark when the photos were taken.

We found a little toad hopping around today. Didn't keep him either. Cute.

I was taking the pics with my phone because I didn't want to hold onto the toad too long, wanted to let him/her back out where they were. Definitely an American toad, it was way too big to be Eastern American. It only had 1-2 warts per spot and the cranial crests were just shy of touching the paratoid glands so it wasn't a Fowler's. I have found all 3 species in my yard though, apparently we're just a good spot for toads!
I have been so worried about 2 of my toadlets being smaller than the others, but when it comes down to it, they could be different species or hybrids considering the amount of toads around here. Time will tell!

out here in AZ when it rains, I can literally walk out of my house and find about 50 frogs in our yard and around the house...and if i walked out into the desert area on the side of the house....omg 100's of toads and frogs breeding like crazy...
We have a pond behind our yard, but I have not had any luck finding more gray tree frogs! That is part of why I went out in the rain, to see if I could find any hanging out. I'm really a terrible tree frog hunter though LOL

Nice find Amy. Here in Colorado I have a pond but no frogs, even when it's very moist outside. The only time i've seen a frog in my yard was a few years back and there was a few frogs (I think they sounded like reed frogs) but I could never find them, only hear them.
We have some bull frogs and Rana clamitans in the pond, obviously a lot of toad tads come out of there. I have not seen anything else though. I got my spring peepers from a different area and the gray tree frogs were all given to me. I have to say though, our toads are pretty darn cool![]()
