Very cool! They sure are growing now. I love that pic with the tongue out. My girls love the toads because they stick their tongues out, unlike the tree frogs that chase and chomp. The toads stalk and reach their tongues!

I will have to get some more pics up of my babies now that they have grown so much. I had to unplug my heater though because I kept blowing the circuit with it and I have no where else in the house to put the tank to use a different circuit. They had a 15 watt light and I bumped it up to a 25 watt. Still not near the strength of the tree frog light, but it works.

Yeah, I like the tongue picture. It was a lot harder to get than I thought it was going to be. Thank goodness we live in the age of digital cameras! If I had to get that on an actual film camera I would have gone bankrupt buying rolls of film. I am looking forward to pics of your babies. It sounds like they are a little ahead of mine in the growth department, so it's almost going to be like a preview for me. I'm starting to wonder if mine are American toads again...I wish they would get big faster so I can tell more easily.

I'm noticing some defined cranial crests on the bigger ones, but I can't tell if they are touching the parotoid glands yet, it doesnt look like they will. None of the spots have more than 2 warts in them though, Fowlers typically have 3 or more. I think they will definitely follow my first guess of eastern american toads. I'll try to get some pics tonight.

Also, they have never burrowed yet until just recently. I thought that was interesting. Here I went and finally put some plants in the toad tank because they were never burrowing, and then they started LOL I think in a few weeks, they'll be big enough to start ripping them up.

That is awesome Greg. Do your toads not have substrate though? Or was this cleaning time?

The substrate is on the other side of the tank (left of the water dish). My guys are weird, though. They prefer to sit in that spot (where there is no substrate!!!) and not bury themselves. I guess they like the heat, and they can see when there's food coming...

That is too funny!! My little ones just started burying themselves sometime in the last week, before that they just sat out in the open. The biggest one has made a "perch" out of the tallest point...ready for any food!

I'm going to turn the nit-picky pedantic side loose here for a moment. Frost et al. in 2006 (and some others since) have shifted Bufo in North America to Anaxyrus.
