Default Tree Frog not eating :(

Hi all, I am a new tree frog owner and I am looking for some advice I got my frog from my sister who moved and transported all of her frogs, lizards and other creatures by car. The trip took a couple of days but all the animals were well cared for along the way. When I got him I left him in his original tank for a few days with some crickets that were in there since the trip. But I couldn't really tell if he ate anything for the first few days becuase I didn't know how many crickets were in the tank. He seems fine and actively jumps around when we took him out. Last Sunday we changed him to a bigger tank and instantly he was exploring his new tank and sticking his butt in the water dish (Is this a good thing?) but he still doesn't seem to be eating. I went to a pet store here and they gave me some worms to try and I pretty much put them right in front of his nose and he wasn't interested at all. I have noticed however that he has lightened up in color from a darker olive green to more of a brighter green color. Could he just be stressed from the move and new tank etc?

I am not even sure what kind of a tree frog he is so I have included some pics to see if anyone else knows what he is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is a green tree frog (Hyla cinerea). Tree frogs dont particularly like worms, it's not something that they naturally run across in the wild. How big are the crickets in comparison to the frog? They should be no bigger than the width of your frogs head.

Is that tank he is in the travel tank? or his current one? Ideally, he should be in at least a 10 gallon vertical tank with a lot of branches and leaves. What is his temperature and humidity at?

I have a gray tree frog who isn't a big eater, so I put him in a critter keeper with 2 small crickets and cover it with a towel so it is dark, usually I can get him to eat that way. It is good that he soaks in the water bowl, that's usually how they drink and defacate, you need to change that water every day.

Yes that is definately an American Green tree Frog I remember reading about them. When I first joined this forum I was told the read the care article for grey tree frogs http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frog-c...ysoscelis.html ... apparently they are similar in care... feeding and temperature wise hope that helps.

hes a cutie by the way

Oh and mine bath in there dish everyday and I mist the baby a few times a day. its there way of drinking threw therir skin apparently lol. and yes a move and new terrarrium might be causeing him stress... our Frodo barely moved till we got him a bigger tank 24" or taller high is ideal for any tree frog. Frodo lives in an 18x18x24 exo terra terrarium and will be shareing it once the baby gets bigger. they like vines or something to perch up higher in ...and some lick hideing places like plants and logs though mine only sits on it at feeding time. and spends the day up at the top as far as he can get next to the light.

Oh and when you said worms I hope you meant meal worms and that they were alive ... most frogs will ignore non moveing prey =) My tree frogs love there crickets I just toss a few of them in before bed and they are gone by morning. and also any house flies I catch

    Hi Everyone!

Thanks for all the advice! I am happy to report that we have a healthy little frog who loves to eat crickets and poop LOL He started eating one night after a big poop and seems to be happy ever since. I am very relieved I think I did a little dance when I saw him snap up a cricket.

So the tank in the pictures is the one that he is in now but we are going to convert a 10 gallon tank into a vertical tank. His tank is currently at 23 degrees and a humidity of about 56%.

    Thanks again!!

Congrats!! I'm glad everything is going well. I wonder if the frog was slightly impacted. Good news anyways, thanks for the update!
